Assistant Certified Instructor

A part-time Assistant Certified Instructor position is available at the Lincoln Logs Learning Center at Lincoln Community School beginning August 31, 2026. This position works with children ages 16 months to Kindergarten while parents attend English as a Second Language or GED classes.
Job Summary:
The Early Learning Assistant Certified Instructor is responsible for working under program leadership to lead a safe and engaging environment for children 16 months to Kindergarten. This position is responsible for assisting the Certified Instructor in the daily implementation of curriculum and planned activities.
Required Qualifications:
- Possess a combination of education, training, and/or work experience that meets the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) licensing requirements for an assistant teacher in a licensed childcare setting. This includes one of the following:
*A high school diploma or GED, along with a minimum of 2080 hours of qualifying experience as a staff member in a licensed child care program and 8 post-secondary credits.
*A two-year associate's degree, along with 1040 hours of qualifying experience.
*A Child Development Associate credential from the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, with no additional work experience required.
*A certificate or credential for a two-year program in child development or early childhood education at a Minnesota community college or technical college, with no additional work experience required.
*A bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a closely related field, with no additional work experience required.
- Childcare experience working with same-age children
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
- Must pass a background check through the Minnesota Department of Human Services
- Current First Aid and CPR certification or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment
- To lift up to 40 lbs for an extended amount of time
- Use household cleaners including bleach
- To physically carry out job tasks: sitting on the floor, running, walking, lifting
Responsibilities: Program Support
- Assume duties of Certified Instructor in their absence.
- Assist in the preparation of daily lesson plans as directed by the Certified Instructor.
- Assist or lead circle time and story time as directed by the Certified Instructor.
- Assist or lead small group and large group activities as directed by the Certified Instructor.
- Teach and model social skills, personal responsibility, problem solving, respect, and other life skills under the direction of the Certified Instructor.
- Actively participate with children in indoor and outdoor recreational activities including sitting on the floor, running, walking, lifting, etc.
- Assist in providing a positive, nurturing, developmentally appropriate environment for children.
- Assist in diapering, toileting, and feeding children following approved procedures.
- Maintain a clean, attractive environment in all programming areas under the direction of the Certified Instructor, including but not limited to setting up and taking down equipment as needed, adjusting room environment, setting up and cleaning up meals and snacks, and inspecting and sanitizing equipment and toys.
Communication:
- Communicate with Certified Instructor on children, activities, and needs
- Assist in documenting/observing child progress as directed by the Certified Instructor
- Assist with filling out forms or data required, as directed by the Certified Instructor
- Communicate in verbal, nonverbal, and written formats with program staff and stakeholders
- Communicate and interact with parents/guardians in a kind and respectful manner
Other:
- Attend all staff meetings and required trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Other Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrate positive and effective working relationships with children, staff, administration and the school community. Maintain professional composure while dealing with a variety of personalities and situations. Communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner. Show initiative as a self-starter. Responsible for confidential information regarding children and families.
Work Environment:
The ability to work in a busy and noisy environment with constant interruptions.

Assistant Certified Instructor reports to the Certified Instructor

Rate of Pay:
$18.03 to $20.03 per hour based on experience and education.
