Under general supervision to perform a variety of duties in the enforcement of laws and the prevention of crimes; to conduct and participate in general investigations of crimes, accidents, and cases involving public morals and welfare; to control traffic flow and enforce Sate and local traffic regulations; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of that Department.

This is the full journey level in the Police Officer class series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Police Officer I level by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, are fully aware of the operating procedures and polices of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and positions at the II LEVEL are normally filled by advancement for the Police Officer I level. When filled from the outside, the employee is required to have prior related experience which allows the employee to meet the qualification standards for the Police Officer II level.
May exercise functional and technical supervision over less experience staff.
Patrol a designated area of the City to preserve law and order, discover and prevent the commission of crimes; enforce traffic and other laws and ordinances; check building for physical security.
Respond to general public service calls and complaints including domestic disturbances, civil, complains property control, automobile accidents, robberies, related misdemeanors and felony incidents.
Collect, process, photograph, and present evidence including fingerprints, fibers, blood, and related physical evidence.
Enforce traffic laws and ordinances check speed with radar issue warnings and citations.
Direct traffic at fires, special events, and other emergency or congested situations.
Conduct traffic accident analyses and general traffic surveys; conduct investigations of serious injury and fatality traffic accidents.
Contact and cooperate with other law enforcement agencies in matters relating to the apprehension of offenders and the investigations of offenses.
Maintain contact with citizens regarding potential law enforcement problems and preserve good relationships with the general public; take an active role in areas of public education relative to crime and crime prevention.
Prepare reports on arrests made, activities performed and unusual incidents observed.
Serve writs, warrants, and subpoenas within the department and with outside agencies; remain current on laws and procedures required for processing.
Investigate crimes; gather and preserve evidence; interview victims, complaints and witness; identify and interrogate suspects; apprehend and arrest offenders; testify and present evidence in court.
May serve as Field Training Officer as assigned; train new officers on departmental policies, procedures and activities.
May conduct a variety of criminal investigations involving crimes against persons and property, child sexual and physical abuse, auto theft, white collar crime, and narcotics; conduct convert and undercover investigations as assigned; gather evidence and prepare cases for prosecution.
High school diploma or GED.
18 years of age.
Currently attending a P.O.S.T. Academy or completion of a P.O.S.T. Academy.
