VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

Campus Police Officers are charged with the duty of preserving the peace, order and decorum of the college community, maintaining an academic atmosphere in compliance with college regulations and state and federal statutes.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; must hold certification from the Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officer Minimum Standards and Training Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, including the following: Provide safety and protection to the college community and public.

Provide building and property security.

Direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Respond to emergencies.

Represent college and legal authority.


Operate various types of motor vehicles.

Operate various types of radio equipment.

Proficient with firearms.

Proficient in basic first aid.

Make written and oral offense, informational and accident reports.

Testify in college disciplinary and civil court proceedings.

When the Governor of the State of Mississippi or the President of Hinds Community College declares a State of Emergency, it is the responsibility of all personnel of the Police Department to ensure the safety and security of the College. Therefore, each Officer and any other essential Department personnel will be required to come to work as assigned by the Chief of Police or their designee. This shall include the voiding of any and all days off and the extension of duty hours. Any Officer or personnel failing to meet this duty requirement will face possible termination.

Perform other duties that may be assigned by the appropriate authority.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, include the following.

Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
