Job description

Full-Time Evening Custodian
REPORTS TO:  Director of Facilities
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
Routine Cleaning & Maintenance
Performs general custodial responsibilities (i.e. scrub, wax, buff, dust, sweep or clean floors, walls, blinds, furniture, lavatories, locker rooms, lockers, shelves, offices, fixtures and glass surfaces, as required to preserve and maintain designated spaces.)
Areas include, but are not limited to:









  • Classrooms, media center, offices and multipurpose rooms
  • Entrances, hallways, gymnasium, and auditorium
  • Restrooms, locker rooms, and showers

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Empty wastebaskets
  • Mop and disinfect floors
  • Clean and disinfect bathrooms
  • Wipe and disinfect student desktops and workspaces
  • Restocks disposable items and provides inventory usage and data.
  • Replace lightbulbs, fixtures, etc.
  • Sweep and clean tiled floors
  • Clean windows, door glass, mirrors, etc.
  • Dust (low and high)
  • Vacuum and clean carpets, mats, and upholstered furniture
  • Report signs of vandalism or abuse of facilities
  • Minor repairs
  • Take down and set up tables and chairs as needed
  • May assist in maintaining seasonal grounds work (i.e. snow removal, lawn care, etc.)
  • Salt icy entryways, walkways and parking lots
  • Assists with the delivery of supplies and equipment
  • Assists outside organizations using school facilities, as assigned
  • Promotes the safety, health, and comfort of the students, staff, and public utilizing or visiting the buildings and campus
  • Other duties as assigned

Summer Cleaning and Maintenance Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Strip, clean and wax tiled floors
  • Painting
  • Deep cleaning of desks, blinds, shades, walls, baseboards, lockers, windows and glass
  • Other duties as assigned

PHYSCIAL DEMANDS: 
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; as well as talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head and reach forward. The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, pails and unloading trucks.  Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 pounds, such as salt and bulk furniture. The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, bleachers and scrubbing machines. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:






  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

 
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Full-time, twelve-month position
  • Satisfactory Child Protection Registry
  • Mantoux skin test/PPD documentation
  • Excellent work ethic, regular attendance and ability to work collaboratively
  • Work hours Monday - Friday, 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Availability to modify hours to daytime in the summer (7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) and/or during non-student days (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.).
  • The State of Delaware requires all public school employees to undergo a criminal background check (state and federal) to determine suitability for employment.
  • Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory criminal background check, which is the responsibility of the employee.
  • The State of Delaware requires new employees to be paid by direct deposit and to be part of a lag payroll system as conditions of employment.                           

EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED preferred
