Job description

Start Date: ASAP
Location: Darien, CT
Compensation: $35–$40/hour
Commitment Level: Full-time, long-term
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 11:30 AM – 7:30 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Position Overview
A warm, active Darien family of three young boys — ages 4, 2.5, and 1 — is seeking an experienced full-time afternoon nanny. The children are home full-time; this family does not enroll their children in school until age six, so the nanny plays a central role in daily engagement, routine, and developmental play. This is a two-person afternoon staffing structure: the nanny works alongside a part-time Household Assistant/Nanny during overlapping hours, with the nanny focused on hands-on care of the children. The home has a very large backyard, a play pool and water table, and two indoor playrooms, and the family places a high value on outdoor time year-round, including in snow and cold weather. The ideal candidate is genuinely warm and upbeat, physically fit, punctual, communicates proactively with parents, and is confident managing three differing nap and rest schedules.

Benefits: Guaranteed hours, 2 weeks paid vacation, 10 paid holidays, 5 paid sick days, legal pay through a payroll service, workers' compensation coverage, on-site parking

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, engaged care for three boys ages 4, 2.5, and 1
  • Manage differing nap and rest schedules — midday nap for the middle child, quiet time for the eldest, and a second afternoon nap for the youngest
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate activities at home and outdoors, including daily backyard play
  • Take the older children outside or into structured play while another child naps
  • Support developmental milestones through play, routine, and structured engagement
  • Handle children's lunch, snacks, and mealtime routines, including kitchen cleanup after meals
  • Apply topical care for the youngest child's mild eczema as directed by parents
  • Tidy children's playspaces and outdoor areas throughout the day
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with parents regarding daily updates
  • Coordinate with the household's morning staff and the afternoon Household Assistant/Nanny

Requirements

  • Proven professional nanny experience with multiple children under five
  • Long-term work history with verifiable tenure
  • Comfortable managing overlapping nap schedules and varied routines
  • Active and comfortable outdoors in all seasons, including winter
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Up to date on COVID-19 and flu vaccinations
  • Punctual and highly reliable
  • Strong, proactive communication skills
  • Must be able to provide 3–5 professional references
