Job description

Interventional Cardiologist Opportunity in Western North Carolina

Position Overview

UNC Health Pardee is seeking a Board Eligible/Board Certified Interventional Cardiologist to join a high-performing, growth-oriented cardiology program in the mountains of Western North Carolina. This role offers the opportunity to practice high-acuity interventional cardiology supported by advanced technology, strong procedural volumes, and a large, established referral base.

Practice Environment

  • OCT / IVUS
  • Physiologic assessment with microvascular testing
  • Shockwave coronary and peripheral DCB
  • Impella and balloon pump
  • Peripheral diagnostic and interventions
  • Pulmonary thrombectomy (coming soon)
  • State-of-the-art GE Cath Lab
    • Large cath lab environment designed for continued future expansion and additional equipment
    • 1,100 diagnostic caths in 2025
    • 38 PCI procedures in 2025
  • Large and well-established regional referral base
  • General cardiologists and clinic-based NPs who refer patients to the cath lab
  • Full time NP in the hospital to assist with rounding and call
  • General call covered by general cardiologist in practice
  • Flexibility and support to develop your practice in accordance with your professional interest and skill set

Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform a full scope of interventional cardiology procedures, including angioplasty, stenting, TEE, Cardioversion, ILR implantation, and other catheter-based interventions
  • Call is currently shared on a 1: basis with periodic 1:4 coverage. This is expected to evolve as additional interventional cardiologist join the practice.
  • Provide inpatient hospital rounds and consultations for interventional and general cardiology in addition to outpatient clinic care
  • Direct administration and management of STEMI patients. Non-STEMI cardiology involvement is limited to consultation only.
  • Perform permanent pacemaker procedures (preferred)
  • Collaborate closely with cardiology colleagues, hospitalists, and care teams to ensure seamless, high-quality care
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in compliance with hospital policies

Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Eligible or Board Certification in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology
  • Eligible for unrestricted North Carolina medical licensure
  • Demonstrated expertise in complex interventional procedures
