Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) has an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Configuration Design Engineer to lead a variety of programs within our Phantom Works division located in Mesa, AZ.
Boeing Phantom Works Vertical Lift creates next-generation technologies, products, and services for the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business. Our focus is developing, capturing, and executing research & development projects creating technologies with application for legacy vertical lift platforms (CH47, AH64, H-6, V22, MH139) and advanced concepts/Future Franchises (FVL, Silent Marauder, Maritime Strike, HSVTOL, Proprietary) with front-end of the business capabilities in Concepts/Configuration Design, Rotors, Drives & Propulsion, Structures, and Vehicle Management architectures.
Phantom Works is the front end of the business in BDS, with a focus on maturing technology, rapid prototyping, and transitioning of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment; concept development; proposal writing; requirements generation; and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments. You will be a part of the Vertical Lift team within Boeing Phantom Works, chartered to developing differentiating capabilities and future concepts by relentlessly pursuing innovation in design, thinking and execution. Key functions in the team include engineering, requirements development, customer relationships, legal/IP, config management, verification and compliance support. This team will play a key role in developing, integrating, demonstrating and transitioning the future BDS-Vertical Lift products and technologies.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Possess a broad multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge with an emphasis on aerospace/aeronautical disciplines (e.g., aerodynamics, propulsion, orbital mechanics, structures, material properties, weight and balance, systems, systems, human factors and interfaces, mission systems, survivability, etc.)
  • Possess the ability to visualize in 3D and have a strong CAD background (Siemens NX and/or CATIA V5 preferred).
  • Background in Systems Engineering and assisting in systems engineering trades and design studies to understand the impact of requirements to the design, cost, weight, schedule, performance and other engineering disciplines
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform multi-disciplinary trade studies to evaluate configuration alternatives for functional and spatial integration
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex vehicles and systems from a multitude of perspectives, apply figures of merit and integrated optimization tools.
  • Highly flexible individual with an ability to adapt to a wide variety of assignments, teams, and organizations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in Air Vehicle design or Systems Integration of Air Vehicle design
  • Experience with design and development on rapid development or prototyping
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Experience with 3D modeling tools (e.g. SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX)
  • Experience with drawing, reading and interpreting Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) of complex mechanical systems
  • This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • This position requires ability to obtain Special Program Access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.
