Job description

Position: Parachute Rigger Support
Type: Full-Time
Location: Coronado, CA
Travel: 10%

**CONTINGENT UPON AWARD**
Position Summary: Parachute Rigger Support personnel provide critical inspection, packing, maintenance, and documentation services for Naval Special Warfare parachute systems. Reporting to the Air Division Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO), this role ensures all parachute equipment meets safety, certification, and operational standards. Responsibilities include packing parachutes, maintaining records, and performing repairs in accordance with military and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidance. This position is essential to ensuring safe and effective airborne operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Pack tactical and non-tactical Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Ram Air Personnel Parachute Systems (RAPPS)
• Pack and maintain military parachute systems (including MT-2XX and non-standard systems) in accordance with technical manuals
• Perform parachute inspections, maintenance, and repairs in accordance with regulatory standards
• Conduct minor and major repairs as authorized by certification level (e.g., canopy patching, line replacement, structural repairs)
• Maintain accurate parachute history cards and maintenance logs
• Follow Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR) Part 65 and FAA-H-8083-17 Parachute Rigger Handbook guidance
• Assist with aircraft-related support activities when directed and properly qualified
• Maintain compliance with manufacturer recommendations and military standards
• Execute required documentation and reporting of maintenance and packing activities
• Sign and maintain required memorandums of certification and responsibility
Required Skills and Abilities:
• Minimum of four (4) years of maintenance experience in support of military airborne operations
• Must possess either:
• Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Master Parachute Rigger certificate (back and chest rating), or
• FAA Senior Parachute Rigger certificate (back rating) with documented military qualification (Navy 773A, Army 92R/921A, or U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) 0451)
• Validated certificate of graduation from U.S. Army Quartermaster Rigger School or Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit (CNATTU) Learning Site Fort Lee for the MT-2XX parachute system
• Clearance: Secret
• Certification for additional systems (e.g., MC-6, T-11R, cargo parachute systems)
• FAA Senior Rigger with chest rating
• Joint Airdrop Inspector (JAI) qualification
• Must possess a valid state driver's license
• Must be able to operate Government vehicles and equipment
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Must maintain high attention to detail and accuracy
• Must be capable of working independently with minimal supervision
• Must have knowledge of logistics and maintenance tracking systems
• Must be capable of operating within classified environments and systems (Non-classified Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET) / Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET))
• Must comply with all safety, security, and workplace regulations
• Ability to lift, carry, and handle parachute systems and equipment
• Capability to stand, bend, and perform repetitive packing tasks for extended periods
• Ability to work in indoor packing facilities and near aircraft environments
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Ability to handle precision tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
