Some paper workers are also involved in packaging, sorting, or distributing paper goods. This job requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and sometimes physical stamina. Paper workers play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient manufacture and supply of paper-based materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a paper worker, and why are they important?

Job description

Allied West Paper is looking for a hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead HR and Safety across our paper operations. This is a high-impact, build-it-from-the-ground-up role for someone who wants to own the people function end to end — not sit in one corner of a large HR department. You'll report directly to the CEO and have real ownership from day one.

About Us

Allied West Paper is a paper manufacturing and converting company based in Fontana, California, with a sister operation, Arcadia Paper Mills, in Oregon. Together we employ roughly 200 people across production, maintenance, warehouse, office, design, and sales. We're a tight-knit, fast-moving company where the work you do is visible and matters.

What You'll Do

As our HR Manager, you'll be the single point of ownership for Human Resources and Safety across both our California and Oregon operations. You'll set the strategy and do the hands-on work yourself, including:

• Full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding for hourly, skilled-trades, office, and salaried roles

• Employee relations, workplace investigations, coaching supervisors, and performance management

• Benefits and leave administration, and keeping our handbook and policies current in both California and Oregon

• Safety: owning our injury & illness prevention programs, Cal/OSHA and Oregon OSHA compliance, incident investigations, workers' compensation, and return-to-work

• Managing our staffing-agency relationships and a large contingent (temporary) workforce

• Building HR and safety processes and systems where little exists today

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of progressive HR generalist experience, ideally in manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial settings

• Strong California wage-and-hour and Cal/OSHA experience; Oregon or other multi-state experience is a significant plus

• Hands-on workers' compensation and safety experience

• Bilingual English/Spanish — preferred

• Comfortable on the production floor and approachable to hourly and skilled-trades employees — not an office-only HR person

• Self-directed, organized, discreet, and pragmatic: you can build from scratch and keep production moving

• HR certification (SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or PHRca) is a plus

Company Description

Manufacturing company in the Inland Empire
