The opportunity:
The Prepress Operator's role is to prepare customer artwork for print. The position requires a strong proficiency in both flexo and offset printing processes. Strong knowledge or direct experience in color management, proofing, platemaking and workflow software is also required. The Prepress Operator will preflight, trap, bleed, color correct, and prepare artwork for the proper printing process. Strong technical skills and attention to detail are required. Knowledge of prepress workflow systems a plus. Strong organization qualities are required. A commitment to providing high quality printing and services to Smurfit Westrock customers, both internal and external, is essential. The ability to prioritize and meet deadlines is required.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Preflight and troubleshoot customer files
  • Prepare files to successfully run in on different printing processes.
  • Provide color management expertise for proofing, platemaking and printing.
  • Provide expertise in file preparation for both flexo and offset printing.
  • Assist flexo plants on any technology around plate making and print.

What you need to succeed:
  • 5+ years experience in packaging prepress
  • Expert knowledge of flexo printing and technology, including plate making special file considerations for flexo print, and planning full print packages for flexo.
  • Knowledge of offset printing and technology, including offset plate making, and special file considerations for offset print.
  • Knowledge of Color Management
  • Proficient with Mac and Windows desktop applications, including Illustrator, Acrobat, Photoshop, and Prepress/PDF editors such as Artpro+ or PackZ.
  • Knowledge of printing terminology and practices
  • Knowledge of high-end prepress workflow systems (Prinergy, Automation Engine), and ability to learn and work in new systems.
  • Must understand 4 - 8 color printing techniques, trapping, extended gamut, and spot color separations
  • Expert knowledge of offset AND flexo printing
  • Knowledge of special print applications like foil-stamping, embossing, and special barcode applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
