Job description

Job Summary
Under the leadership of the Lead Groundskeeper and the general supervision of the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation; performs gardening and grounds maintenance work; plants and maintains lawns, trees and shrubbery; and performs related duties as assigned.
Mows, rakes, edges, weeds, plants, fertilizes and waters lawns; prepares and fertilizes soil, plants and maintains trees, shrubs, hedges and flowers; hoes weeds; sweeps blacktop and concrete areas with a power blower; picks up paper and other debris; operates various grounds equipment such as riding and hand mowers, edger, trimmer, and chain saw; operates various other landscaping tools and equipment; hauls and disposes of trash and trimmings as needed; drives a District truck and loads and unloads gardening and grounds maintenance equipment.
OTHER TYPICAL DUTIES
Sprays landscaped areas with herbicides; waters various grounds by hand or by operation of sprinkler systems; cleans sprinkler heads and makes minor repairs to sprinkler systems; performs minor repair and maintenance work on hand and power mowers, edges, trimmers, chain saws and miscellaneous landscaping tools and equipment; prepares athletic fields by dragging, lining, and marking; may operate a forklift; cross trains with Groundskeeper II to insure continuous grounds operation in the event of absence; and during serious air pollution emergency periods or inclement weather may be temporarily reassigned to inside custodial or maintenance work.
