Job description

TITLE: Bag Machine Operator A

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Bag Machine Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining paper bag machinery to produce high-quality paper bag. This position requires a solid understanding of the paper bag process, including setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting the paper bag process to ensure efficient production and compliance with quality standards. The ability to work independently or with minimal supervision is also essential.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior experience in paper bag is preferred
  • Willing to work a 2-2-3 schedule with 12-hour shifts with planned day/night rotation
  • Willing and able to lift up to 50 pounds routinely
  • 3+ years of experience as a Machine Operator in the manufacturing of paper bags or similar role in a manufacturing environment a plus
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong adherence to OSHA and SQF requirements
  • Familiar with Lean manufacturing and 5S principles
  • Must have basic tools (Allen wrench, wrench, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and HMI interfaces
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and machine control interface operations
  • Ensure consistent, dependable attendance and demonstrate a willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Machine Setup and Calibration:
    • Proficient in setting up, processing, and calibrating paper bag machinery according to product specifications and production requirements.
    • Maintain high production quality.
    • Daily data keying into system.
    • Scan raw material accurately into system
    • Adjust machine settings such as glue, speed, and pressure to achieve optimal production conditions.
    • Perform routine operations required to set up, operate and adjust multiple paper bag machines.
    • Able to fill in during absence of Lead or Supervisor.
  • Quality Control:
    • Inspect bags for defects, such as tears, misprints, or improper sealing and adjusting the machinery as needed to maintain quality standards.
    • Ensure quality of product and conformance to extremely close tolerances by auditing various quality tests using a variety of electronic machines and visual inspections.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Identify and resolve issues that may arise during the paper bags process, such as equipment malfunctions or material inconsistencies.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills to perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments and report mechanical or electrical problems to the maintenance department.  
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate production records, including machine settings production rates, and quality control data.
    • Report any deviations from standard operating procedures and work with the appropriate personnel to address them.
  • Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for themselves and their colleagues.
    • Report any safety concerns or incidents promptly.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Collaborate with team members, including machine operators, quality control personnel, and maintenance staff, to optimize production efficiency.
    • Relieve team members during lunches and breaks and provide technical assistance to others as needed.
    • Train new Machine Operator level C.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes, reduce waste, and increase overall efficiency.
    • Provide input on potential process improvements based on practical experiences.
    • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
