Crop Business Developer (Northern Region)
Location: Remote (Northern Region)
The Details:
Palomar is looking for a highly motivated Crop Business Developer to build sustained growth for our team. The Crop Business Developer is responsible for engaging with existing and prospective crop insurance agents to promote Palomar's insurance products professionally and creatively. This role will report to our SVP of Crop Production and presents an exciting and challenging opportunity to impact Palomar's revenue through execution of the Company's sales strategy and unique approach to distribution.
What will you do:
Lead Generation and Prospecting:
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities by researching and targeting potential clients in the crop insurance sector, including farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses.
  • Generate leads through cold calling, networking, attending industry events, and leveraging referrals.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospective clients to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • Develop and nurture strong relationships with clients to understand their insurance needs and provide tailored crop insurance solutions.
  • Educate clients on crop insurance products, including multi-peril crop insurance (MPCI), crop-hail insurance, and supplemental coverage options.

Sales and Consultative Selling:
  • Conduct needs assessments to recommend appropriate insurance products that align with clients' risk management goals.
  • Prepare and present proposals, quotes, and product information to prospective clients.
  • Drive sales closure and manage client onboarding and policy application processes to ensure seamless client experience.
  • Monitor competitor offerings and industry developments to position our products effectively.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop targeted campaigns and promotional materials.

Reporting and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, client interactions, and pipeline progress in CRM software.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Sales Manager on sales performance and market feedback.
  • Ensure all sales activities comply with federal and state insurance regulations and company policies.

What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor's degree in agriculture, business, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5 years of experience in sales, business development, or a customer-facing role, preferably in the agricultural or insurance industry.
  • Prior experience in crop insurance or agribusiness is a plus but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of or willingness to learn about crop insurance products and the agricultural industry.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build trust with clients.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel within the region to meet clients, attend company events, and attend industry events (up to 70% travel).
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Existing network or familiarity with the agricultural community.
  • Experience with lead generation tools or digital marketing strategies.

Pay Range: $100,000 - $135,000 + Bonus Potential & Participation in our Competitive Long-Term Incentive (LTI) Program.
The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock grants. In addition, we offer a highly competitive benefits package.
