What are pallet companies?

Pallet companies are businesses that manufacture, supply, recycle, or repair pallets, which are flat structures used to support goods during storage or transport. These companies play a crucial role in the logistics and supply chain industry by ensuring that products can be moved efficiently and safely. Pallet companies may offer a variety of services, such as new pallet production, used pallet sales, custom pallet design, and pallet recycling. Their clients typically include warehouses, manufacturers, retailers, and shipping companies. Pallet companies help businesses optimize their logistics by providing durable and cost-effective solutions for handling goods.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a pallet company, and how can new employees overcome them?

Working at a pallet company often involves physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, assembling, and repairing pallets. New employees may find adapting to the fast-paced environment and strict safety protocols challenging at first. To overcome these challenges, it's important to focus on proper lifting techniques, actively participate in safety training, and communicate openly with supervisors and team members. Over time, increased familiarity with equipment and processes will help improve efficiency and reduce the risk of injury.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pallet industry, and why are they important?

To thrive in the pallet industry, you need knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory management, and basic mechanical skills, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant experience. Familiarity with forklifts, pallet jacks, and inventory tracking systems is typically required. Attention to detail, strong teamwork, and problem-solving abilities are essential soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure efficient pallet production, safe handling, and smooth logistics within supply chain operations.

Job description

Are you the builder of systems and teams who turns strategy into everyday excellence?

If youโ€™re energized by leading people, stabilizing processes, and making safety and quality visible at the point of work, this Lean Manufacturing Operations Manager (TPM) role at PECO is for you. Youโ€™ll guide assigned TPM Locations, develop talent, and implement operational and strategic initiativesโ€”bringing PECO Processes to life through disciplined execution and continuous improvement.

Your Impact

Start with a safety-first mindset, then ensure day-to-day operations deliver on Safety, Quality, Cost, Inventory, and Engagement. Youโ€™ll be the primary liaison with our TPM Partner, the coach developing TPM staff, and the problem-solver who removes barriers so projects land on time and on target.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead TPM employees and own overall location outcomes across SQCI(E) metrics.
  • Manage the onsite relationship with our TPM Partner, keeping objectives and execution tightly aligned.
  • With the TPM Supervisor, manage budgetsโ€”maintain, optimize, and report expenses.
  • Mentor, train, and upskill team members to strengthen capability.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve safety, quality, operational throughput, and best-practice adoption.
  • Collaborate with sales, service, transportation, and planning on TPM performance initiatives.
  • Develop and present operational performance reports that inform leaders and employees on workload and resource utilization.
  • Deliver projects end-to-end: coordinate resources, drive change management, identify/mitigate risks, document processes, and communicate updates to stakeholders.
  • Control inventory for other pallet companies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required; 8+ years in manufacturing/operations with 3+ years of people management.
  • Interpersonal and leadership strengths; able to partner across departments and lead teams effectively.
  • Robust knowledge of manufacturing equipment/processes and operations processes; adept at managing multiple priorities.
  • Data-driven decision makerโ€”capable of analyzing and interpreting KPIs.
  • Excellent written communication; experienced in preparing technical reports and presenting to groups and senior leaders.
  • Capable of supervising multiple groups/shifts, where applicable.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable using enterprise software.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver with strong manufacturing business acumen.
  • Ability to drive a forklift is required.
Who You Are
  • Trusted communicator with strong presence; quickly builds credibility across all levels.
  • Guided by PECOโ€™s Core Values: Safety, Integrity, Trust, Excellence.
  • Brings diverse experience and industry best practices to elevate performance.
  • Accountable, focused, and deadline-driven.
  • Confident engaging with current and potential PECO partners.
  • Data-, process-, and results-focused; high energy with a passion for winning.
