Job description

General Maintenance Worker

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of the ice arena. This role involves performing routine tasks to ensure the facility is clean, safe, and operational. Duties include performing minor repairs, and ensuring all equipment and areas within the arena and building exterior are in proper working order.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular checks on refrigeration, dehumidification and electric heating systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility, including seating areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other common areas, to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform repairs, including boilers, plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, flooring and carpentry tasks as needed.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of events, including moving equipment, setting up boards, and preparing the arena for various activities.
  • Regularly inspect and maintain all ice arena equipment, including ice resurfacing machines, skate sharpening machines, and HVAC systems.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA standards.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as spills, accidents, or equipment malfunctions, promptly and efficiently.
  • Assist patrons with general inquiries and provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive experience.
  • Handle any customer complaints or issues in a professional manner, escalating to management when necessary.
  • Assist with snow removal and outdoor maintenance as required.
  • Support other staff members with tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in facility maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with ice arena operations and equipment is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and welding
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in cold environments.

Compensation Package:

  • Full-time hours position – $29-$34 based on experience
