Overview: AutoCAD Technician:
This Estimator/Engineer position requires broad skills and solid expertise. Candidate should have significant hands-on experience in both a machine shop, a sheet metal shop, and overall precision metal fabrication and finishing. Must have strong hands-on experience in all aspects of metal fabrication, especially quoting. This includes deep knowledge of Manufacturing especially labor time needed to fabricate metal including lasers, turret press, brakes, hardware installation, lathes, multi-axis machines, drill presses, robots, sanding finishing, welding, and more. Most have deep knowledge of types of metals and finishes, thicknesses. Use both basic and advanced calculations to determine the current and potential productivity of a process. Use analytical skills to evaluate and interpret data. They also use these skills to create reports and describe the results to company decision-makers.

Responsibilities and Duties: AutoCAD Technician:
  • Create quotes for machine shop and sheet metal. Must be able to create a BOM to include all labor materials, overheads and profit. Be able to quote metal fabrication jobs A-Z based on hands on experience and review of drawings and all details required by customers. Be able to create an industrial BOM with all logical equipment and labor steps based on our processes.
  • Use AutoCAD, Solid works or other engineering drawing software to create drawings and then issue to the shop floor to get all the parts made.
  • Be able to program and layout parts for both fiber and CO2 metal cutting lasers including metal and laser selection, optimal layout, optimal cut speeds and more. Be able to program turret (punch) presses A-Z including parts layout. Must understand metal fabrication details like bend deductions, how to measure parts to thousandths and have deep knowledge of metal finishes and 3rd party metal treatments or metal painting.
  • Set up tools and program Amada Brakes for bending to form parts per customer drawings.
  • Be able to program Machine shop or welding robots.
  • Use skills in project management and mathematics to better understand the current processes and procedures of the company, then work to improve them. Do time motion studies (stopwatch) to improve efficiency of processes including set up and clean up.
  • Evaluate current manufacturing practices and identify those needing improvement.
  • Manage production schedules and coordinate services to maximize productivity.
  • Enforce quality control to reduce waste.
Qualifications and Skills: AutoCAD Technician:
  • Bachelor of Engineering Degree in mechanical or industrial engineering is preferred but deep experience with less education will be considered.
  • Experienced with metal fabrication and our electronic PCB and electronic assembly is very helpful. We will train but prior experience is essential for this position. .
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be aware of a business's needs while making technical recommendations understandable. Good common sense and business sense. Ability to exercise independent decision making.
  • Be able to handle stress and perform consistently in a fast-paced demanding environment
  • Good leadership skills and assist in implementing productivity changes. The ability to develop relationships with coworkers is useful when making recommendations.
  • Must have a deep understanding of metal fabrication manufacturing preferably in a job shop with a great variety of set ups
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Must be expert at using Microsoft office suites especially Excel and Word.
  • Must be very strong using ERP software. We use Profit Key software.
  • Ability to make procurement decisions and metal selection for all company metal fabrication materials.
  • Effectively conduct communications with all inside personnel customers and manufacturing.
