Company Description
The University of Notre Dame is more than a workplace! We are a vibrant, mission-driven community where every employee is valued and supported. Rooted in a tradition of excellence and inspired by our Catholic character, Notre Dame is committed to fostering an environment of care that nurtures the whole person-mind, body, and spirit. Here, you will find a deep sense of belonging, a culture that prioritizes well-being, and the opportunity to grow your career while being a force for good in the world. Whether contributing to world-class research, shaping the student experience, or supporting the University's mission in other ways, you will be part of a dedicated team working to make a meaningful impact on campus and beyond. At Notre Dame, your work matters, and so do you!
Job Description
Notre Dame Athletics develops and challenges each student-athlete to pursue excellence and serve as a force for good in the world. Our vision is to lead collegiate athletics by defining the integrated student-athlete experience and forming champions. To do this, we are eager to attract, recruit, develop and retain individuals who positively contribute to a collaborative, connected culture where all may thrive.
As a prospective member of Notre Dame Athletics, we invite you to apply if you have a shared purpose for our distinctly integrated student-athlete experience, an unrivaled passion for people who propel a dynamic and high performing organization, and a proven record of success in your field
The Maintenance Assistant is a hands-on role that helps ensure Notre Dame's football facilities are safe, functional, and ready to support daily operations. Based primarily in Shields Family Hall, a 160,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art football operations center, you'll play an important role in maintaining high-quality spaces that serve student-athletes, coaches, staff, recruits, and campus guests.
While Shields Family Hall is your primary work location, you'll also provide maintenance and operational support across the Irish Athletic Center (Indoor Practice Facility), LaBar Practice Complex (Outdoor Practice Fields), and key football spaces within Notre Dame Stadium, including the North End Locker Room, Schivarelli Lounge, and Hinton Tunnel.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in a job well done, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves. One day you may be troubleshooting a maintenance issue, completing repairs, or preparing facilities for daily use. The next, you may be setting up spaces for football camps, recruiting events, or game-day operations. Every day brings a new opportunity to solve problems, support your teammates, and help create an environment where others can perform at their best.
We're looking for someone with experience in general building maintenance, facility operations, or a skilled trade who is comfortable using hand and power tools, performing routine repairs, and identifying maintenance needs before they become larger issues. Success in this role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to contribute wherever needed. The ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and remaining active throughout the workday, is essential.
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in building maintenance, facility operations, property maintenance, or a related skilled trade.
  • Working knowledge of general maintenance practices, including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and commercial cleaning.
  • Experience using hand and power tools to perform routine maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to identify and resolve minor maintenance issues independently while recognizing when to escalate more complex repairs.
  • Experience supporting facility or event operations, including room setups, moving commercial furniture, and preparing spaces for large events, is preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb step and extension ladders, and perform physically active work throughout the workday.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Forklift and aerial lift certifications are preferred or the ability to obtain them upon hire.

Additional Information
Hourly rate: Up to $23.00 per hour
Applications will be accepted through September 2, 2026
