Job description

This position serves as maintenance staff for the Floyd County Department of Parks and Recreation, responsible for maintaining and upgrading park facilities, properties, and equipment.

DUTIES:

Maintains park grounds and turf, routinely mowing grass, trimming and cutting shrubs and trees, raking/mulching leaves, hauling dirt, spreading dirt, and snow removal, as needed.

Operates various heavy and light equipment, including dump trucks, skid loader, tractor, RTV, chainsaw and various hand tools and related attachments in effecting the general maintenance, repair, and safety of park grounds and facilities.

Repairs, constructs, and paints park facilities and equipment such as open shelters, piers, benches, picnic tables, playground equipment, and other facilities, as needed or assigned.

Ensures the proper functioning of assigned vehicles and equipment by performing minor repairs and maintenance.

Maintains building appearance by sweeping and mopping floors, stripping and waxing floors, buffing floors, polishing fixtures, changing light bulbs, clean restrooms, emptying trash, cleaning walls, and baseboards.

Maintains outdoor areas by picking-up trash and sweeping area sidewalks and parking lots.

Performs minor building repairs, carpentry and roofing, and electrical and plumbing work; notifies supervisor of need for major repairs and maintenance.

Drives light and heavy trucks to haul supplies, parts, and materials.

Assist with maintenance duties as requested on other county facilities on an as needed basis.

Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Working knowledge of skill in the operation of dump trucks, skid loader, tractor, mowers, chainsaws, power washers and various hand tools and related equipment.

Working knowledge of and ability to operate custodial equipment such as buffing and stripping machines.

Basic knowledge of mechanics of light equipment and ability to perform preventive maintenance and minor repair on vehicles, mowers, chainsaws and other park equipment.

Working knowledge of safety procedures for working in or around department equipment.

Basic knowledge of building maintenance and carpentry, plumbing, painting and masonry skills.

Ability to follow verbal instructions, and effectively communicate with co-workers and general public.

Ability to physically perform the essential functions of the position including the ability to lift and carry park equipment up to 50 pounds.

This position does require occasional weekend work/shifting of duty hours during certain recreational seasons.

Ability to legally operate a wide variety of vehicles and equipment; must possess a valid Indiana Driver's License.

LICENSE/ CERTIFICATION NEEDED: Must possess a valid Indiana Driver's License or ability to secure on within 60 days of hire, and must be insurable under the Floyd County Department of Parks and recreation insurance carrier. CDL preferred, but not required. Prefer or capable of becoming a CPSI—Certified Playground Safety Inspector and CPA-Certified Pesticide Applicator.
