Job description

United Support Services, Inc., founded in 2003, is an innovative engineering and technology business headquartered in San Diego, CA. We have an exciting new opportunity and are currently looking for an experienced Marine Painter to provide support to U.S. Navy vessels in the Hampton Roads, VA area. This position offers a competitive salary and unique opportunity to perform various shipboard duties.

Duties and Responsibilities
Coat barge and shipboard surfaces, including decks and structural components, using paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin, and other protective coatings.
Apply coatings using brushes, rollers, spray guns, and other industry-standard painting equipment.
Remove old paint and surface contaminants from metal surfaces using approved preparation methods and standard industry practices.
Smooth and prepare surfaces using sandpaper, steel wool, grinders, and related tools to ensure proper coating adhesion.
Paint insignias, letters, numerals, and markings on barge and shipboard surfaces using stencils and other marking techniques.
Receive work assignments from foremen, supervisors, or lead personnel through service tickets, work orders, or verbal instructions.
Independently determine work sequences, materials, tools, and equipment required to complete assignments.
Follow layout sheets, craft plans, floor plans, schematics, technical descriptions, and manufacturer guidance.
Maintain strict adherence to safety procedures, environmental requirements, and quality standards.
Work in physically demanding environments including confined spaces, elevated work areas, and aboard naval vessels.
Utilize respiratory protection equipment including half-face and full-face respirators as required.
Additional tasks and duties may be assigned.


Required Experience:
Shipboard painting experience required.

Messing & Berthing Barge Experience preferred.
Understanding of U.S. Navy ship layouts, configurations, control plates, placards, markings, and symbols.
Experience with surface preparation, coating application, and marine painting techniques.
Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, policies, guidelines, and repair standards.
Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the United States as required.
Strong verbal communication skills.

Experience supporting U.S. Navy vessel maintenance and repair operations.
Experience working in physically demanding shipyard or industrial environments.
Ability to transit ladders, multiple decks, confined spaces, and elevated work areas safely.
Experience using half-face and full-face respiratory protection equipment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Familiarity with shipboard safety procedures and environmental compliance requirements.


Qualifications:

Must have Security Clearance.

Must have Drivers License.

The physical job requirement involves, but is not limited to, walking, reaching, bending-over, concentration in the presence of noise, lifting items up to 50 lbs., and traversing narrow passageways, climbing ladders/stairs, and operating in confined spaces onboard naval vessels, barges, and in buildings.
