Paid Relocation System Administrator information

What is a paid relocation system administrator?

A Paid Relocation System Administrator is an IT professional responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer systems, servers, and networks for an organization, with the added benefit that the employer covers the costs of relocating to a new location for the job. This role typically involves installing hardware and software, monitoring system performance, ensuring network security, and providing technical support to users. Paid relocation packages help attract candidates from different regions by assisting with moving expenses and sometimes temporary housing. System administrators are crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and security of an organization's IT infrastructure.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a paid relocation system administrator?

To thrive as a Paid Relocation System Administrator, you need a strong background in IT systems administration, network management, and troubleshooting, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux), virtualization platforms, cloud services, and relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate is essential. Excellent problem-solving abilities, adaptability, and effective communication skills help you collaborate with teams and manage system transitions smoothly. These skills are crucial to ensure seamless system operations and minimal downtime during relocations or infrastructure changes.

What are some common challenges system administrators face when relocating for a new position with paid relocation benefits?

When relocating for a System Administrator role, common challenges include quickly adapting to new IT infrastructure, learning organization-specific processes, and integrating with unfamiliar teams. Additionally, there may be logistical hurdles such as coordinating the move, managing time zones, and setting up personal and professional routines in a new city. Proactively communicating with your new team and leveraging available onboarding resources can help smooth the transition and ensure a successful start in your new environment.

Job description

Command & Control Systems Platform and Infrastructure Engineer

The Opportunity:

Everyone is trying to "harness the cloud," but not everyone knows how. As an experienced cloud computing infrastructure architect, you know how to take advantage of cloud capabilities. Here, you'll oversee our team of experienced professionals and use cutting-edge enterprise cloud platforms to guide your clients as they modernize their IT infrastructure and meet their most challenging missions. We're looking for someone like you to help modernize our solution so the warfighters stay safe.

You'll collaborate closely with fellow cloud architects and engineers specializing in GitLab CI, Jenkins, and ArgoCD or Flux to design, deploy, and harden the containerized foundation beneath next-generation C2 systems - from enterprise data centers to the tactical edge and cloud solution components. You'll have the chance to broaden your experience within a DevOps framework to create and manage container apps and use products like Kubernetes to further the mission. With access to our internal software, licenses and environments, you'll have the space and time to explore different ways of solving our clients' problems, and you'll partner with stakeholders and lead your team to deliver the right technical solutions. Whether modernizing legacy computing platforms and applications or creating new ones from scratch, you'll have the latest tech and brightest teammates at your fingertips.

Grow your skills at the leading edge of innovation.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 8+ years of experience in infrastructure or platform engineering, including technical leadership on production systems
  • Experience operating Kubernetes at production scale, including cluster deployment, day-2 operations, upgrades, and security hardening
  • Experience with CI/CD and GitOps pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, and ArgoCD or Flux
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management using Terraform and Ansible
  • Experience implementing and operating an observability stack such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK or OpenTelemetry
  • Experience designing and deploying systems in secure, air-gapped, or DDIL environments
  • Ability to translate mission and reliability requirements into resilient, automated platform designs
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a technology field, or 6+ years of experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining missioncritical C2 platforms and infrastructure in lieu of a degree
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II Security+ CE certification

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience deploying and sustaining containerized platforms in DoD environments such as Platform One, Big Bang, or Iron Bank
  • Experience engineering for the tactical edge and hardening deployments for DDIL and disconnected operations
  • Experience with C2, ISR, or other mission-critical DoD systems and their operational constraints
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps practices, including container scanning, policy enforcement, such as OPA, Gatekeeper, or Kyverno, and STIG compliance
  • Experience with secrets management and zero-trust patterns such as HashiCorp Vault or SPIFFE/SPIRE
  • Experience achieving and maintaining an Authority to Operate (ATO), continuous ATO, or RMF accreditation
