What is packing?

A packing job involves preparing products for shipment by placing them in boxes, sealing them, and labeling them correctly. Packers ensure that items are packaged securely to prevent damage during transportation. They may also inspect products for quality, organize inventory, and follow safety guidelines. Packing jobs are common in warehouses, factories, and retail fulfillment centers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in packing, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Packing role, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a basic understanding of warehouse safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with packing equipment, barcode scanners, and inventory management systems is beneficial. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are standout soft skills. These qualifications ensure orders are packed accurately, efficiently, and safely, contributing directly to customer satisfaction and operational productivity.

What are typical work shifts and environments like for packing positions?

Packing roles are often based in warehouses, distribution centers, or manufacturing facilities, where the environment can be active and fast-paced. Shifts may vary, with some employers offering daytime, evening, overnight, or weekend schedules to meet production and shipping deadlines. Team members typically work together to organize, prepare, and package products for shipment, and may rotate between different tasks to keep the workflow efficient. The position generally involves being on your feet for extended periods and handling both lightweight and heavier items, so physical stamina is helpful. Many employers provide thorough on-the-job training and opportunities to advance into supervisory or inventory-related positions over time.

How much do you get paid for packing?

Packing jobs typically pay an hourly wage that ranges from minimum wage to around $15-$20 per hour, depending on the employer, location, and experience. Some positions may offer bonuses or incentives for productivity, and the work often involves repetitive tasks in warehouse or fulfillment center environments.

What do packing jobs do?

Packing jobs involve preparing products for shipment by placing items into boxes, wrapping, labeling, and ensuring they are secure for delivery. Workers often use tools like tape dispensers and may need to follow safety procedures and quality standards. These roles typically require attention to detail and can be found in warehouses, fulfillment centers, and manufacturing facilities.

Company Description

People Store Staffing Solutions marks the inception of a truly Canadian success story in the staffing industry. The journey began in 1995 when the founder entered the staffing world right after college at the age of 20.

After several years with large multinational firms, contributing significantly to their growth in the Canadian market, the founder amassed 9 years of industry experience and a commendable track record. Ready for a new challenge and driven by rapid changes and declining values in the industry, the decision was made to reintroduce quality standards. This initiative later evolved into the People Store Quality Assurance Program (PQAP).

Encouraged by a close friend and seasoned entrepreneur, the founder embarked on a solo venture in 2003. Armed with a business plan crafted at a kitchen table, an idea, a dream, and immense ambition, the firm was launched. This marked the beginning of one of the most successful staffing enterprises in Canada.
