Job description

The Neil Jones Food Company is an industry leader, processing superior quality fresh-packed, vine-ripened California tomatoes and Pacific Northwest fruit. Headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, NJFC has been providing our nationโ€™s discerning foodservice, retail, industrial and institutional customers with the finest quality canned and pouched products for over 50 years. NJFC operates three production facilities: Northwest Packing in Vancouver, WA.; San Benito Foods, in Hollister, CA; and Toma-Tek in Firebaugh, CA.

We are looking for a part time Human Resources Assistant I to provide human resources administrative and clerical support to one or more areas of Human Resources at a unionized manufacturing facility. This role will be responsible for communicating basic information to employees according to human resources programs and policies at our TomaTek plant in Firebaugh, CA. This is a part-time position (full-time during pack season, July โ€“ October, and when running production off season; part-time the rest of the year).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responds to routine inquiries about HR and Payroll matters and directs employees to appropriate program information/resources.
  • Compiles information, prepares and processes a wide variety of personnel action forms containing confidential and sensitive information.
  • Assists with recruitment efforts with high volume recruitment including processing applications, onboarding and new hire orientations.
  • May have one or more focus areas within HR functions.
  • Maintains attendance records and tracks employment records.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; advanced coursework preferred; or, any equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of the position.
  • 1 year of office experience in an HR environment; preferably in a manufacturing operation.
  • Good skills using Microsoft Office applications; Excel and Word required; Data entry skills and proficient at 10-key.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check including employment and educational verification, credit screen, and to work extended schedule and weekends during the fresh pack season, typically July to early October.
