Job description

Our client, a family-owned and operated manufacturing company, is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shipper/Packer to join their team in Needham, MA. This is a hands-on role responsible for preparing products for shipment, ensuring every order is packaged accurately, securely, and according to customer specifications. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong work ethic, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to think critically when determining the best packaging methods for a wide variety of products.

Location: Needham, MA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00AM–5:00 PM (Some overtime opportunities available)
Pay: $23.00-25.00/hour

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily shipping and packing operations as the primary shipping associate
  • Carefully pack products ranging from small precision components to 5-foot lengths of tubing, ensuring each shipment meets customer-specific packaging requirements
  • Read and interpret job travelers, customer instructions, and packing specifications to determine the appropriate packaging method for each order
  • Generate packing lists, shipping labels, bills of lading, and waybills using the company's ERP system (UPS, FedEx, LTL)
  • Verify that all outgoing shipments include the correct documentation, certifications, and labels
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient shipping area
  • Order and replenish shipping supplies as needed
  • Assist with basic inventory tasks during slower shipping periods
  • Serve as the final quality checkpoint to ensure orders are accurate, complete, and ready for shipment
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Previous experience in shipping, packing, or warehouse operations required
  • Experience preparing shipments for small parcel and freight carriers; familiarity with bills of lading and waybills preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow detailed customer instructions and identify errors before products leave the facility
  • Ability to analyze packaging requirements and use sound judgment when handling products with varying sizes, materials, and levels of fragility
  • Comfortable using computers and learning ERP systems (ERP experience is a plus)
  • Ability to lift and handle products weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently
