Job description

Mavis Tire - Network Engineer

We are seeking a Network Infrastructure Engineer who is a dedicated and detailed troubleshooter. This role is built for a technical detective who excels at bridging high-performance physical transport layers, massive remote security perimeters, and secure cloud environments. You will be part of a team that builds and maintains a geographically diverse network, managing carrier-grade transport circuits and a security perimeter supporting thousands of concurrent encrypted connections.

Core Responsibilities

  • Core Routing, Switching & Carrier Transport
    • Carrier Ethernet Management: Provision, tune, and troubleshoot wide-area layer 2 transport fabrics, including Metro-Ethernet, E-Line (point-to-point), and E-Lan (any-to-any) configurations across geographically distributed nodes.
    • Core Matrix Operations: Maintain and optimize an enterprise core routing matrix utilizing advanced protocols, focusing on multi-homed BGP (path attributes, local preference, communities) and multi-area OSPF.
    • High-Availability Fabrics: Administer non-blocking, multi-chassis link aggregation (MC-LAG / multi-chassis etherchannel topologies) to ensure sub-second core failover.
    • Campus Distribution: Manage high-density, multi-layer switching environments, optimizing VLAN allocation, Spanning Tree derivatives, and Quality of Service (QOS/COS) prioritizing real-time transaction traffic.
  • Large-Scale Security Perimeter & Remote Access
    • Massive Scale VPN Tunneling: Administer and monitor a security topology supporting persistent site-to-site and remote-access VPN tunnels spanning diverse geographic endpoints.
    • Firewall Engineering: Manage and optimize high-throughput, stateful Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW) protecting physical boundaries and tunnel concentration points.
    • Policy Hardening: Troubleshoot complex security policies, Content Filtering, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) blocks, and secure zone segmentation without causing transit latency.
  • Cloud Connectivity & Hybrid Integration
    • ExpressRoute Engineering: Engineering of private cloud transport pipelines, managing Azure ExpressRoute circuits, private/Microsoft peering, and associated Q-in-Q or dot1q sub-interface.
    • Hybrid Routing Architecture: Isolate and correct asymmetric routing, BGP route advertisements, and prefix limits between on-premises transport hubs and Azure Virtual Networks (VNets).
  • Collaborative Lifecycle Management & Governance
    • Cross-Team Alignment: Participate regularly in technical syncs with Project Managers and Developers to ensure the transport network and cloud boundaries can scale for upcoming product updates.
    • Change Management: Consult on network upgrades, circuit change-overs, and application deployments, enforcing rigid change-management testing and back-out plans.
  • Diagnostics & Packet Analysis
    • Packet-Level Triage: Resolve transient packet loss, jitter, MTU/MSS fragmentation path blocks, and routing loops using hardware telemetry, Wireshark, and span/mirror ports to verify root cause.
  • Observability & Network Monitoring
    • Performance Baselines: Define and maintain telemetry baselines for critical infrastructure to proactively identify performance degradation before it impacts users.
    • Tooling Integration: Configure and manage network monitoring platforms (e.g.,SNMP, NetFlow/IPFIX, Streaming Telemetry) to provide real-time visibility into traffic patterns and device health.
    • Alerting & Incident Response: Architect actionable alerting workflows to minimize false positives and ensure rapid, data-driven incident triage.

About Mavis Tire, in their own words

From Mavis Tire

What began as Vic’s Cycle Shop in 1949 - a humble bike repair stand in Westchester County, New York - grew into a small chain of tire shops. In 1972, that local enterprise was rebranded as Mavis Tire Supply (inspired by its founders, Marion + Victor Sorbaro), becoming one of New York’s first multi-brand tire dealers. Through the 1970s and ’80s, Mavis was focused on delivering value-oriented service, and expanding carefully across the Northeast under the Sorbaro family’s leadership.

In 2018, Mavis Tire Supply merged with Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers and Brakes Plus to create a new national automotive care platform. The resulting company, Mavis Tire Express Services Corp., known as Mavis, continued to deliver value-oriented, best-in-class service and marked the beginning of a new phase of accelerated growth.

Today, Mavis is a national leader in tire and automotive services, boasting a family of brands which include Mavis Discount Tire, Mavis Tires & Brakes, Midas, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers, Brakes Plus, Tire Kingdom, NTB (National Tire & Battery), Town Fair Tire, and Tuffy. From tires, oil changes, brakes, alignments, and batteries, to suspensions, exhaust work, and state inspections, we deliver it all with the same honest, community-first service that we’ve been known for since 1949. With more than 3,500 owned and franchised retail locations across the U.S. and Canada, Mavis serves millions of drivers each year, with a commitment to dependability, safety, convenience, and value.
