Position Summary

Vanderlande is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance operations of a highly automated Baggage Handling System (BHS) within a service contract environment.

In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of 30-40 maintenance professionals responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical airport infrastructure. You will serve as the primary liaison between customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders while driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance system performance, safety, and operational efficiency.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with proven people leadership and a passion for operational excellence in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 30-40 maintenance professionals.
  • Establish team priorities, distribute workload, and monitor overall performance and productivity.
  • Conduct performance reviews, coaching sessions, and employee development initiatives.
  • Build workforce flexibility through cross-training and skill development programs.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Operations & Maintenance Management
  • Oversee all maintenance activities to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted system operation.
  • Manage maintenance schedules, staffing plans, and resource allocation across shifts.
  • Ensure timely execution of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Monitor system performance and maintenance metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Drive initiatives that improve equipment reliability, availability, and operational efficiency.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customer operational and maintenance-related matters.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customer leadership and operational teams.
  • Coordinate activities with subcontractors and internal support organizations.
  • Provide regular performance updates, reports, and operational reviews to customers and company leadership.
  • Ensure alignment between site operations and corporate objectives.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Analyze maintenance performance data and develop action plans to address gaps.
  • Support strategic initiatives that enhance maintenance effectiveness and long-term system reliability.
  • Promote best practices and standardized maintenance procedures across the operation.
Required Qualifications
  • Technical degree, certification, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a technical maintenance environment supporting electromechanical systems.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing maintenance, engineering, or technical operations teams.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls systems.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, drive accountability, and achieve operational objectives.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting airport baggage handling systems (BHS), material handling systems (MHS), parcel automation, distribution centers, or similar automated environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience working in customer-facing service contract environments.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, maintenance planning systems, and performance reporting tools.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport ID Badge.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Customs & Border Protection Security Seal.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an airport-issued Driver's Permit.
Work Schedule
  • Primarily standard daytime business hours.
  • Flexibility required to support operational needs, emergency events, and occasional off-shift activities.
Reporting Structure

Reports To: Regional Contract Manager / Operations & Maintenance Manager

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $100,000 - $115,000 annually

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible for participation in Vanderlande's annual performance bonus program. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and market considerations.
