Enterprise Packaging Engineering Manager | Ogden, UT


Nexeo HR has partnered with a global automotive manufacturing leader to hire an Enterprise Packaging Engineering Manager. This direct-hire opportunity offers $70,000–$95,000 (DOE) and the chance to lead enterprise-wide packaging strategy, systems architecture, and automation standards across multiple facilities.

This role is ideal for a senior-level packaging or logistics engineering professional with experience owning standards, systems integration (ERP/PLM/WMS), GS1/AIAG compliance, PFEP databases, cartonization systems, and multi-site governance within high-volume manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain enterprise packaging standards for automation, returnable, and expendable systems
  • Publish controlled specifications, playbooks, and governance documentation
  • Lead exception/waiver governance and chair standards review boards
  • Manage change control processes (ECO/ECN)
  • Define common packaging footprints aligned with safety, quality, and sustainability
  • Own enterprise packaging data architecture and tools (PFEP/spec databases, cartonization, labeling systems)
  • Govern master data including part-to-pack links, dunnage IDs, sustainability attributes, and test results
  • Standardize audit routines and drive user adoption and training
  • Administer cartonization and labeling systems (GS1/AIAG compliant)
  • Integrate packaging data with ERP/PLM/WMS platforms (SAP, Oracle, Teamcenter, Windchill)
  • Establish serialization, barcode, QR, and RFID standards
  • Enforce labeling and traceability checkpoints across ship/receive operations
  • Own packaging materials and automation portfolio roadmap
  • Lead pilot programs with measurable success criteria
  • Conduct market scouting and collaborate with suppliers and startups
  • Develop KPIs and dashboards to monitor compliance
  • Drive corrective actions with site leaders
  • Mentor regional teams and lead training initiatives
  • Lead and assign workload to a team of packaging engineers
  • Support new model launches and serialization projects

Qualifications

  • BS in Packaging Engineering (preferred) or Mechanical/Industrial Engineering
  • 7–10+ years of experience in packaging or logistics engineering
  • Multi-site standards and systems ownership experience in automotive or Tier-1 manufacturing
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • PFEP and specification databases
    • Cartonization systems (TOPS, Cape, WMS-native)
    • Labeling systems (GS1 / AIAG compliant)
    • ERP/PLM/WMS integration (SAP, Oracle, Teamcenter, Windchill)
  • Strong Excel and BI reporting skills; understanding of APIs and MDM concepts
  • Working knowledge of ISTA/ASTM transit testing, load securement, sustainability/EPR
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA); ArtiosCAD preferred
  • Ability to read drawings, GD&T, and tolerance stacks
  • Strong leadership, governance, and cross-functional communication skills
