Who we want...ย The Packaging Engineer III role at Gray AES is an early to mid-career level engineering position. Thisengineer will support and/or lead the design, installation and commissioning of manufacturinglines focused on the packaging operations of consumer products.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical, industrial or packaging systems engineering. An emphasis on packaging systems is preferred.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated professional work experience in a Packaging Equipment Systems Engineering or related field of work.
  • Work experience with professional engineering service providers and/or manufacturing in food and beverage, life sciences, CPG, Pharmaceuticals or other related fields is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, are required to support proactive coordination across all project disciplines. Examples of this include the development of engineering deliverables documentation and effective presentation of project materials to large and diverse project teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Advanced excel skills are a plus.
  • 2D CAD experience is a plus.
  • Experience in large capital project engineering/management, specifically in detailed packaging system design, preferably related to food and beverage processing lines or related transferable expertise
  • Advanced understanding of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFD's, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to perform in a highly collaborative, cohesive team environment, with Gray AES, other teams in the Gray family of companies, or other external partner companies.
  • Ability to "independently" evaluate existing processing operations and suggest and drive solutions that provide ROI and improve productivity.
  • Ability to perform engineering tasks independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications

What we expect...ย 

  • Reinforce the overall project team by serving as a member of the packaging team on complex, fully integrated projects of different sizes. Phases include FEL/FEED, Detailed Design, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning Support.
  • Support the technical lead on all aspects of packaging systems design and integration development including line and equipment speed analysis, pack out matrix, block flow and general arrangement layout drawings, equipment lists, utility demand matrices, procurement specifications/approvals. Ability to perform engineering tasks independently, requiring minimal oversight from senior engineers.
  • Prepare equipment lists and data sheets, block flow diagrams, process flow diagrams and P&IDs as needed. Ability to work under pressure and conflicting priorities, with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to generate independent thought, provide alternatives to improve efficiency.
  • Lead the development of the scope of work. Ability to generate entire estimates for specific tasks and can also generate a small proposal within their area of expertise. Actively support a sales / BD initiatives.
  • Develop written sequence of operation narratives for equipment, systems, and process controls.
  • Assist in preparing vendor and contractor bid and construction packages for project equipment, components, and installations as well as bid analysis
  • Travel is a regular expectation of this role and depends upon the location of projects and customers, the stage of project execution, and your role in the project. Travel may also be required for annual company meetings and some training
  • Overall average travel expectations for this role range from 20% to 40%.
  • Project-related travel can range from 30-50% during design development with a customer, to 10-20% travel during specification and procurement, and to 50-70% during installation and commissioning. These ranges depend on the location and type of project.
