Job description

The Packaging Development Associate plays a key role in supporting packaging innovation, optimization, commercialization, sustainability initiatives, and product launches while ensuring projects are completed on time and in accordance with brand, quality, and operational requirements. This position works closely with many cross functional teams.


  • Will be supporting their Director of Packaging
  • Will not be designing or creating and will take instructions from Client directly
  • Prefer a technical and detailed oriented background
  • Graphic management is a big plus but will not be designing - executing packaging directives
  • Fast paced, must adapt to change
  • Will be working with consumer facing products - collaborating daily with their director


RESPONSIBILITIES:

Packaging Development & Project Coordination

  • Support the Packaging Director in the development and implementation of new promotional designs and core base packaging solutions in close collaboration with Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, Suppliers, Agencies and client staff.
  • Coordinate packaging development activities at the direction of the Packaging Director for new product launches, promotions, and operational initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, milestones, and implementation schedules.
  • Track project deliverables and communicate status updates to stakeholders.
  • Coordinate packaging sample requests, evaluations, testing, and approvals.
  • Assist with identifying packaging improvements related to functionality, quality, and cost optimization.


Artwork & Graphics Management

  • Coordinate artwork development and approval processes with suppliers, graphic agencies, marketing teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with artwork due dates and approval timelines to ensure projects remain on schedule.
  • Verify and submit packaging artwork dyelines and print specifications are current prior to artwork development.
  • Maintain artwork archives and version control documentation.
  • Assist/manage proofing process, mockups, and production samples for accuracy and consistency.
  • Assist in ensuring graphic and color standard consistency across all supplier base and production facilities.
  • Occasionally attend press approval and/or endorsement runs. Packaging Documentation & Specifications
  • Coordinate and gather applicable data and technical drawings for specification development.
  • Organize collect and maintain specification packaging archives, databases, and electronic records.


Supplier &Stakeholder Support

  • Assist and coordinate communications with Client, suppliers, distributors, testing laboratories, creative agencies, and internal teams.
  • Assist with supplier onboarding, performance reviews, and information requests.
  • Assist and coordinate laboratory testing submissions and track results.
  • Develop working relationships with supplier base and all applicable teams. Industry Research and Trends
  • Stay apprised of QSR industry packaging trends, sustainability initiatives, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies.
  • Assist with sustainability reporting and compliance-related documentation.
  • Support initiatives focused on environmental and sustainable packaging solutions.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

A four-year degree is required. Two to three years of direct or relevant work experience in packaging development R&D, manufacturing, graphic design and/or related industries is a plus and preferred.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Working knowledge of packaging materials, printing processes, manufacturing, or product development preferred.
  • Experience coordinating artwork workflows and approval processes preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn technical packaging concepts and apply them effectively.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
  • Possesses intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office and related business applications, enabling efficient execution of tasks and effective management of work assignments.
  • Actively participates in team discussions, clearly articulating ideas, insights, and recommendations related to their area of responsibility. Contributes value through thoughtful input and collaboration while continuing to develop professional expertise and organizational knowledge.
