Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Construction Project Manager to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Responsibilities
  • Initiate investigations of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify root causes and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing, and controlling cost and schedule performance for a project or subproject.
  • Act as the point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance.
  • Ensure work packages accurately represent the duration and budget required to perform the work.
  • Perform variance analysis reviews, determine causes and effects of schedule or cost variances, and define corrective action plans.
  • Present project management performance plans, status updates, trends, or issues to federal sponsors.
  • Organize, direct, and manage teams of workers including work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation.
  • Manage construction projects by proactively controlling scope, schedule, and budget using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommend risk acceptance or avoidance.
  • Lead constructability reviews during the design process and evaluate impacts to construction cost and schedule.
  • Interface with program, project, and line management to develop clear and executable action plans.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and technical advice regarding health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Identify problem areas, investigate alternative solutions, and establish recovery plans or paths forward.
  • Determine actions required to resolve issues affecting maintenance programs.
  • Prepare and present project status reports to senior management, project stakeholders, and regulatory entities.
  • Utilize computerized work management systems to track job activities and coordinate materials and equipment deliveries with vendors and suppliers.
  • Promote open communication and teamwork across project teams.

Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, or specialized courses in project management, and ten (10) years work experience (5+ years experience in at least one of the following functions: engineering, procurement and construction); additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance - To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Proven leadership and management skills to organize, direct, and control a team of workers.
  • Advanced experience managing construction projects including scope, schedule, and budget control.
  • Experience using Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS).
  • Demonstrated experience identifying project risks and developing mitigation strategies and corrective actions.
  • Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations, and D&D (Decontamination and Decommissioning).
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in facility maintenance and/or construction management.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control, and facility control systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
  • Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configurations, and lock-out/tag-out procedures.
  • Ability to understand and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and other mechanical, electrical, and physical documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and present oral and written reports.
  • Experience using computerized work management systems for job tracking and coordination.

About the Site
The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
