Job Overview:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Always wear PPE properly and instruct others in the work area to properly wear PPE as well.

· Must be able to understand, follow, and fill out work orders for specific SKU’s.

· Prior to starting equipment, an Operator is responsible for reading work orders to see that materials for the run are in place and sees that equipment safeguards are operable and in use. Make sure that the job is run by work order and asks questions if work order is not clear.

· Makes every effort to make in-spec, quality products and meet or exceed daily production goals, while working in a safe manner.

· Observes operation to detect any equipment malfunctions or problems with product. Makes minor adjustments or repairs and reports equipment or output problems to supervisor.

· Performs blending operations following information found on work orders and/or found in process manuals.

· Trouble shoots routine equipment problems and may assist Maintenance with equipment repair.

· Set lot codes on lot code equipment and inspect/change lot code throughout shift as needed.

· Mark or labels packaging with product labels, lot numbers, loads cartons, stacks, and wraps pallets and fills containers.

· Replaces empty raw material super sacks, keeps line supplied with raw materials and components and opens new and recycled raw material containers.

· Cleans machine surface, areas surrounding the equipment and the mezzanine.

· Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment throughout the shift/production run.

· Responsible for the quality of product produced to include all specifications, packaging, stacking, and labeling of product. Inspects product for deviation from customer specification and standard and records required information. Provides information regarding shift production and completes the required checklists.

· Reports operational problems and unsafe conditions to supervisor. Logs equipment downtime on the downtime sheet of the work order.

· Maintains and empties dust collector system and bags on a regular basis. Vacuums any recycled materials to drums.

· May be required to drain hoppers or filling equipment of off-spec blends/materials into lined supersacks or drums.

· Understands plant labeling requirements and sees that all chemicals are properly labeled and managed.

· They Can pass tests on chemical compatibility, plant labeling program, equipment controls and operations. Must be certified on any two of the following: packaging equipment, blending equipment, filling equipment & pouching equipment, rotary press, mechanical press, or the infeed in 24 months or less of becoming an operator.

· Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.

· Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Does not supervise other employees.

· They have no authority to hire, evaluate, discipline, or terminate employees.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Machine Operator is responsible for driving production and efficiency on a line by directing, coordinating, and delegating the work tasks required to multiple Packaging Associates.

· Refers problems to supervisor.

· May demonstrate operating methods to new employees and assist in training new employees to ensure safety and efficiency goals are met.

· Lead Packaging associates by example and limit distractions in your work area to help uphold a Safe, Efficient, Quality driven work environment.

· The outgoing and incoming Operators are responsible for conducting a productive shift handoff daily.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma or certificate preferred, or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Ability to read, write and speak fluent English language is preferred but not mandatory. Machine Operator should have the ability to read work orders, record information in logbooks, report production activity, ask questions and follow written and verbal instructions.

· Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using units of weight measurement, currency, volume, distance, and size.

· Machine Operator will need to possess basic math skills to count scrap, total up production counts, read digital tools, etc.

EQUIPMENT

· Machine Operator will operate packaging equipment, blending equipment, filling & pouching equipment, rotary press, mechanical press, and/or infeed.

· Machine Operator will work with simple tools such as a caliper, heat gun, hammer, screwdriver, and pliers.

· Understand how to properly tare and use product scale to accurately fill customer products to specified weights.

· Will be responsible for setting up date codes and verifying accuracy per the work order.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORMENT

· The employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crawl, lift; and watch and listen to equipment.

· Employees must be able to lift fifty pounds.

· Employees may be exposed to various chemicals.

· Employees must be able to wear a respirator and/or other personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary to reduce exposure.

· Employees must be able to work in hot and cold.
