Carex is partnering with a consumer goods industry partner for a Packaging Engineer I opportunity supporting packaging development for new and existing products across North America. This role works closely with category and platform management teams to develop innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions that add customer value, improve sustainability, reduce distribution costs and damage, and provide competitive advantage.

Hybrid onsite schedule in Roswell, GA (Tues/Weds onsite & Mon/Thurs remote).
Contract Duration: 6mo+
Hours: 30 hrs/week (may increase if needed)
Compensation:$40-45/hr

Summary

The Packaging Engineer I will support packaging development initiatives across a broad portfolio of products, from initial concept through testing and implementation. This role will leverage expertise in packaging design, testing, materials, equipment, palletization, and applicable regulations to improve packaging performance, cost, sustainability, and customer experience.

What You'll Do
  • Deliver innovative, cost-effective packaging solutions that minimize cost, add customer value, and advance sustainability objectives.
  • Support the continuous improvement of existing packaging and packaging equipment to better meet customer and end-user requirements.
  • Recommend and support packaging development programs that reduce distribution costs or product damage and provide competitive advantage.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with packaging suppliers to stay current on packaging materials, equipment, technologies, and industry developments.
  • Understand and communicate relevant North American packaging legislation, laws, and regulations.
  • Assist with and coordinate packaging testing in accordance with ISTA and ASTM test methods.
  • Develop and execute tests and experiments to generate relevant packaging performance data.
  • Apply CAD and corrugated box design expertise to packaging development projects.
  • Ensure final artwork is properly correlated with package design requirements.
  • Consider material supplier manufacturing processes when developing packaging solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of distribution requirements, packaging materials, technologies, and industry practices to support project objectives.
  • Plan, organize, prioritize, and support packaging projects with a high degree of self-direction.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and project stakeholders.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 3 years of related experience is desirable.
  • Advanced experience with CAD and corrugated box design.
  • Expert-level proficiency with TOPS palletization software.
  • Knowledge and experience with industry-standard testing procedures for packaging materials and packages.
  • Ability to conceptualize and execute tests or experiments that generate meaningful data.
  • Understanding of the relationship between final artwork and package design.
  • Awareness of applicable packaging laws and regulations.
  • General understanding of packaging material suppliers' manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of customer and distribution requirements.
  • Knowledge of industry trends, procedures, materials, and technologies related to packaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and support projects independently.
  • Strong ability to collaborate and perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
