Job description

IMEG is hiring a Controls Design Intern in Idaho Falls, ID, to work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of control systems. This role supports project delivery while working within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities Support controls design tasks according to code and IMEG standards
Produce control documents such as IO list, connection schedule, loop drawings, and schematics
Maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and documentation for permanent record files
Coordinate design and schedules with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams
Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress
Review project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to final check
Prepare and issue addendum information
Conduct periodic job site observations and perform other services required by the contract services agreement

Required Qualifications and Skills

Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Strong interest in design consulting
Previous exposure to AutoCAD Electrical software
Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Controls Team Highlights IMEG's Automation & Controls group delivers advanced industrial control system design to optimize processes and facility operations.
The team develops process automation solutions that integrate with mechanical and electrical systems, often utilizing P&IDs as the basis for control logic.
Close collaboration between IMEG's process engineers, controls engineers, and the client is critical to fully understand process requirements and safety needs.
The team produces functional specifications, implements PLC/SCADA programming, and performs thorough check-out and startup commissioning of the control systems.
