The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is seeking a Winter CDL Equipment Operator to support essential roadway operations throughout the winter season. This role gives you the chance to operate heavy equipment, respond to changing weather conditions, and help keep roadways safe for travelers. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Winter CDL Equipment Operator, you will perform a variety of duties during the winter season, such as snow removal, traffic control, equipment repair and maintenance, guide rail repair, and loading trucks with winter materials; stocking the salt and/or skid deliveries.

- Salary: Winter CDL Equipment Operators earn $23.46
- These are seasonal positions lasting from September through April, but there are frequent opportunities to obtain a permanent full-time position.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period.
- All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period.
- Employees may be required to obtain an active Hazardous Materials (H) Endorsement.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
- Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
- Certain positions may require a CDL with E or O restriction removed.
- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
