Job description

The Process (Mechanical) Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes for printed circuit boards (PCBs). This role ensures the production of high-quality PCBs through improving process efficiency, maintaining equipment, and adhering to quality standards. The PCB process engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot issues, introduce new technologies, and support continuous improvement activities.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and improve PCB processes.
  • Optimize production workflows, reduce costs, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Serve as the primary owner of your respective processes with a general knowledge of your internal customers.
  • Monitor process performance metrics (yield, cycle time, quality, rework) and take proactive steps to resolve issues.
  • Act as the point of contact for process-related decisions, changes, and optimizations.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and purchase PCB manufacturing equipment to improve capability and/or reduce cost.
  • Ensure calibration and preventative maintenance schedules are followed to extend the lifetime of the equipment and reduce downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with customer and product specifications by monitoring and reacting to critical process inputs and outputs.
  • Identify and execute effective corrective actions to address scrap/rework events.
  • Investigate and resolve process related defects using root cause analysis tools such as Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) or Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Maintain detailed process documentation; this includes short sheets (SS), standard operating procedures (SOPs), forms, and process control plans. Focus should be on clear language with poka-yoke (mistake proofing) methods where possible.
  • Lead both cross functional and targeted continuous improvement activities.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and leadership skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to driving excellence.
  • Working knowledge of printed circuit board manufacturing.
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or related methods.
  • Proficiency in process monitoring tools and improvement methods (e.g., SPC, FMEA, DOE, RCA, Process Capability Analysis, MSA).
  • Experience with advanced PCB technologies (e.g., HDI, RF, Flex, Rigid Flex, Book Binders).
  • Proficiency in statistics and statistical software such as Minitab.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM tools
