Position Summary: The Project Systems Designer will provide Process design and drafting services, Process system database management, and creation and maintenance of reports used during project execution. The Process system database serves as the platform for Midrex's Intelligent P&ID application system.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • The Project Systems Designer does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Prepare P&IDs, Equipment lists, Line lists, Instrument lists, and other applicable lists related to the P&IDs and Process system database.
  • Perform computer aided drafting necessary to create P&IDs and PFDs for basic & detailed engineering of a Midrex plant. Customize and develop Intelligent P&ID production enhancing procedures using software tools for consistent efficient working practices while ensuring that all work is carried out to company standards.
  • Take conceptual designs, sketches, and ideas from Engineers, and develop the details necessary for a complete, engineered drawing.
  • Maintain and update symbols, attributes, and look up libraries as required, enabling project specifications to be accommodated.
  • Perform checking of P&ID drawings for consistency and completeness. Lead P&ID design review sessions with project teams to ensure that design requirements are implemented per the requirements of Engineering disciplines.
  • Develop reports to assist engineers and designers and verify database integrity.
  • Work as a "team player" with all company departments and employees. Work towards building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
  • With the goal of increasing productivity and accuracy, streamline working practices by minimizing manual data entry.
  • Work closely with the Intelligent P&ID and Process database system architect to continuously improve the application of Intelligent P&IDs to the overall Engineering effort.
  • Work with other disciplines to successfully utilize the Intelligent P&IDs and the Process system database to enhance the benefit to Engineering activities and deliverables.
  • Communicate with Intelligent P&ID software vendors regarding bugs, required enhancements, and updates.
  • Provide training to ensure cohesive comprehension of the Intelligent P&ID software.

Skills/Abilities:
Required:
  • Advanced computer skills including use of Autodesk and Microsoft products.
  • Be proficient in use of AutoCAD software, MicroStation, Excel, Visual Basic or other programming software.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
  • Good technical writing and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:
  • Be proficient in Siemens COMOS P&ID module, AVEVA P&ID, and AVEVA Engineering software (particularly as related to P&ID development).
  • Experience with the use and/or configuration of Siemens COMOS FEED, E&IC, Logic, and Pipe Spec modules.
  • Experience with the interface of Siemens COMOS P&ID and AVEVA E3D applications.
  • Be proficient in Database Management.

Education and Experience:
  • Associate Degree in Computer Aided Drafting (or similar piping/mechanical discipline).
  • Minimum of five (5) years hands-on experience in a technical environment.

Travel REQUIREMENTS:
  • Up to 10% International and Domestic based on project demands.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
