What is P and C insurance?

P and C insurance stands for Property and Casualty insurance, which provides coverage to protect individuals and businesses from financial losses related to property damage and liability. 'Property' insurance covers things like homes, cars, and other physical assets against risks such as fire, theft, or natural disasters. 'Casualty' insurance, on the other hand, protects against legal liabilities resulting from injuries or damage to other people or their property. Common examples include auto insurance, homeowners insurance, and commercial liability insurance. P and C insurance is essential for safeguarding assets and ensuring financial stability in the face of unexpected events.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a property and casualty (P&C) insurance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Property and Casualty (P&C) Insurance professional, you need a solid understanding of insurance products, risk assessment, and underwriting, usually backed by relevant licenses such as a P&C insurance license. Familiarity with insurance management software (like Applied Epic or Guidewire), claims processing systems, and regulatory compliance tools is also crucial. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure accurate risk evaluation, effective customer service, and compliance with industry regulations, which are vital for business success and client trust.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in property and casualty (P&C) insurance, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in P&C Insurance often navigate challenges such as staying updated with regulatory changes, managing complex claims, and balancing customer service with risk assessment. To address these, it's important to engage in continuous professional development, leverage technology for efficient claims processing, and maintain clear communication with clients. Collaboration with underwriting, actuarial, and legal teams also helps ensure accurate policy management and compliance, leading to better outcomes for both clients and the company.

Job description

About Us

Rivianis on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As an Insurance Advisor, you are a senior frontline representative of the Rivian Agency. You serve as a subject matter expert, managing high-volume inbound sales while navigating the most complex insurance profiles in our book. You aren't just a salesperson; you are a high-level consultant capable of solving difficult challenges that come with high-net-worth clients and complex multi-state requirements.

You will work on the core sales team alongside our Associate Advisors and CSRs. While the daily mission is the same—closing sales and educating owners—you bring a depth of technical knowledge and industry tenure that allows you to act as a "north star" for the team, ensuring our most complex customers receive world‑class protection.

This role is required to work non-standard hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays to support the vehicle delivery mission

Responsibilities
  • Senior Sales Execution: Lead the charge in converting high-intent inbound inquiries into active P&C policies, consistently exceeding high-level sales targets and setting the bar for the rest of the team.
  • Complex Case Management: Serve as the go-to expert for "corner case" scenarios, including high-limit policies, complex multi-policy/multi-state accounts, with unique underwriting challenges.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a technical resource for the broader customer‑facing Rivian teams, providing clarity on intricate insurance regulations and product nuances, while maintaining a fast‑paced environment.
  • Consultative Advocacy: Interact with carrier partners as a high‑level advocate for our customers, ensuring even the most complex risks are placed correctly and efficiently.
  • Process Leadership: Propose and help implement innovative solutions to improve the digital and manual agency processes, constantly searching for ways to increase efficiency.
  • Operational Quality: Maintain meticulous documentation standards, prioritizing compliance and quality to uphold Rivian’s premium brand reputation.
  • Customer Ambassadorship: Deliver service that exceeds expectations, turning complex problem‑solving into long‑term brand advocacy through diligent follow‑up.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of demonstrated sales experience in P&C insurance (Personal Lines).
  • Licensing: Active resident P&C insurance license is required. Proven experience maintaining active non-resident licenses across a broad range of states is highly preferred.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of P&C products, underwriting guidelines across multiple carriers, and the ability to solve complex policy riddles on the fly.
  • Sales Prowess: A self‑starter with a “closer” mentality and a proven track record in high‑volume sales organizations. No cold calling is required; you focus on closing high‑intent leads.
  • Composure: The ability to remain calm and consultative under pressure in a high‑velocity, high‑growth environment. Active Listening: Exceptional skills in filtering information during conversations to highlight key coverage points and build immediate trust.
  • Education: BA/BS in Business, Communications, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Flexibility: Willing and able to work non‑standard hours, including weekends, nights, and holidays to support the vehicle delivery mission.
