Overview

Salary: $68,000 - $85,000 Annually 

Summary:


The Safety Manager will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
This position will be responsible for managing and developing all aspects of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) including
compliance with Federal, State and Local, applicable laws and regulations. The Safety Manager will provide a safety-first
leadership, coaching, and development culture for the employees in and around ready-mix plants and associated activities.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Safety:


• Develop a system to uniformly track goals, policies, and procedures
• Provide monthly reporting & communications regarding key safety metrics
• Collaborate and provide support to other Ozinga divisions as needed
• Deepen the teams’ knowledge, use, and understanding of OSHA rules and regulations
• Engage with federal, state & local authorities in difficult situations, including high stress inspections
• Stimulate new ideas to continually promote a safe workplace
• Develop and chair a safety committee; perform monthly follow ups on previous month’s safety issues to ensure all safety
trainings/meetings are being completed
• Ensure Best Management Practices (BMP’s) are being used region wide
• Participate in regular inspections, and manage the inspection scheduling for all responsible locations
• Update and implement new manuals, safety rules, procedures, and policies
• Assess and address ergonomic issues/better lifting/repetitive motion – stretch & flex programs
• Identify weak areas and provide solutions through in house and outside training


Employee Relations:

• Maintain objectivity, encourage open communication and feedback from employees
• Confront difficult situations and use negotiation skills to resolve conflicts, handling all related complaints in a timely
manner
• Participate in new employee orientations
• Assist plant managers and supervisors with accident reporting and injured worker claims
• Document and ensure refresher, task training and employee onboarding training is completed for personnel


Global Responsibilities:


• Regular attendance and physical presence at work is an essential function of this position
• This job may require additional duties not listed above and the employee may be asked to perform those duties to meet
business needs


Qualifications:


Education/Specialized Knowledge/Professional Certifications:


• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• College degree is a plus, but not required


Experience:


• Experience with ready mix production or construction industry is required
• Minimum of 5 years supervision and management experience required
• Experience with OSHA rules and regulations, previous participation with inspections is required
• Experience with implementing/adopting safety plans and protocols a plus

Skills/Abilities:


• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Thrives in a team environment and enjoys working closely with others
• Exceptional communication skills; able to present information effectively to large groups of people
• Creative thinker with the ability to employ approaches and solutions to turn safety issues into safety opportunities
• Excellent leadership skills; can handle tough conversations throughout all levels both inside and outside of the company

Working Conditions:

• Operation within a professional office environment
• Regularly works outdoors in all weather and ground conditions
• Routine usage of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
• Travel required to visit plants and sites

Physical Requirements:

• Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with
hands and arms
• Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth
perception and ability to adjust focus
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
