What is overseas basketball?

Overseas basketball refers to professional basketball leagues outside of a player's home country, most commonly outside the United States. Many athletes pursue careers abroad in countries such as Spain, Turkey, China, Australia, and others, where they compete in competitive leagues and often earn a living. Playing overseas can offer valuable experience, cultural exposure, and opportunities for career growth, especially for those not currently in the NBA or WNBA. Players may face challenges like language barriers and being away from home, but the experience can be rewarding personally and professionally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an overseas basketball player, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overseas Basketball Player, you need advanced basketball skills, a strong athletic foundation, and often collegiate or professional playing experience. Familiarity with video analysis software, strength and conditioning programs, and sometimes FIBA regulations or language skills are valuable. Adaptability, resilience, and strong communication help players adjust to new cultures and team dynamics. These abilities ensure high performance, smooth integration into international teams, and the ability to handle the unique challenges of living and competing abroad.

What are some typical challenges professional basketball players face when adapting to playing overseas?

Adapting to playing basketball overseas often involves challenges such as adjusting to a new culture, language barriers, and different coaching styles or game rules. Players may also need to acclimate to being far from family and friends, which can impact their mental well-being. Additionally, team dynamics and expectations may differ from those in domestic leagues, requiring flexibility and strong communication skills. Building relationships with teammates and local staff can help ease the transition and lead to a successful season abroad.

The Materials and Color Developer owns seasonal material and color execution across Trove Brands' soft goods categories, including bags, accessories, and apparel. Working within the Soft Goods PM and Development team, this role translates seasonal direction into production-ready standards through raw material development, color management, CAD creation, and material library ownership.
The role partners closely with Product Managers, Technical Development, Design, Supply Chain, and overseas mills and factories to ensure materials and colors are accurate, cohesive, and delivered on time.
Key Responsibilities
  • Research and develop woven, knit, coated, and technical performance materials; manage mill outreach, sampling, evaluation, and development records.
  • Own the lab dip and color approval process from vendor submission through revisions, final approval, and bulk production.
  • Create seasonal color CADs, colorways, trend boards, and presentation templates using Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Manage seasonal color updates for carryover SKUs and maintain continuity of approved standards.
  • Maintain physical and digital material and color libraries, including swatches, lab dips, strike-offs, bulk standards, hardware, and finishes.
  • Manage daily material and color communication with overseas vendors and monitor bulk submissions for accuracy.
  • Travel internationally as needed to evaluate materials, review color, and strengthen supplier relationships.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Textile Design, Materials Science, Fashion Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in raw material and/or color development within fashion, lifestyle, athleisure, performance, or soft goods.
  • Strong knowledge of textile construction and raw material categories.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong material sensibility and color evaluation skills.
  • Experience working directly with overseas mills and factories.
  • Excellent organization and project management skills across multiple seasonal development tracks.
  • Passion for material innovation, color trends, and creating cohesive, consumer-ready collections.

Our culture is passionate, entrepreneurial, and energetic. We value innovation through collaboration. And while we work smart and hard, we also connect and celebrate with equal gusto. We host team-building activities, athletic events, and seasonal celebrations to foster community and reward accomplishments. Bottom line? You'll love it here.

  • Full indoor basketball/volleyball court
