An overseas accountant is a financial professional who manages accounting, auditing, and financial reporting responsibilities for businesses or individuals in a foreign country. They ensure compliance with both local and international accounting standards, handle currency conversions, and navigate cross-border tax regulations. Overseas accountants often support multinational companies or expatriates, helping them understand and meet financial obligations in different jurisdictions. Their expertise is essential for businesses operating globally to maintain accurate records and remain compliant with varying legal requirements.

Job description

The Staff Accountant – Global Finance Liaison owns the day-to-day U.S. accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, and entity-compliance activities while serving as the primary liaison between the U.S. operation and Global Finance. This position is responsible for accurate full-cycle bookkeeping, timely month-end reporting, annual budget coordination, routine U.S. corporate filings, and complete, reliable financial communication to global stakeholders.

This is a hands-on, mid-level individual-contributor role. The Staff Accountant will independently manage core full-cycle accounting processes while serving as the required U.S. liaison to Global Finance. Strategic finance leadership, tax advisory, legal functions, and final approvals remain with Global Finance, authorized Company officers, or outside advisors.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations and Full-Cycle Bookkeeping

· Own the full-cycle bookkeeping process, including accurate maintenance of invoices, receipts, expense reports, purchase documentation, payment-supporting records, and the general ledger.

· Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor setup, customer invoicing, collections follow-up, and employee-reimbursement activities.

· Maintain accurate accounting records for U.S. operating expenses, travel expenses, payroll-related documentation, project costs, and approved expense allocations.

· Complete bank, credit-card, balance-sheet, and other account reconciliations; prepare journal entries and accruals; lead the U.S. month-end close; and resolve missing, unusual, or unreconciled transactions.

· Prepare weekly and monthly AP, AR, cash, expense, project-cost, and other management schedules; ensure all reporting is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.

Global Finance Liaison and International Coordination

· Serve as the primary U.S. contact for direct coordination with Global Finance and provide timely, accurate, and organized accounting records, schedules, and reporting support.

· Communicate U.S. operational requirements and transaction details clearly to overseas finance partners; clarify Global Finance processes, documentation needs, and approval requirements for U.S. leaders and vendors.

· Coordinate across time zones and follow up on open questions, approvals, reconciliations, intercompany documentation, and reporting requests.

· Prepare and coordinate documentation for domestic and international payments, wire transfers, vendor inquiries, reimbursements, and intercompany charges.

· Escalate foreign-exchange, payment, banking, reporting, or compliance concerns to the appropriate Company leader or Global Finance contact.

U.S. Corporate Compliance and Entity Administration

· Maintain a compliance calendar for state corporate filings, annual reports, business-license renewals, registered-agent updates, certificates of good standing, and other entity-maintenance requirements.

· Prepare, coordinate, and submit routine state and local corporate filings, renewals, and supporting documentation by required deadlines.

· Maintain organized corporate records, state registration documents, business licenses, compliance correspondence, filing receipts, and renewal confirmations.

· Coordinate with internal leadership, global finance partners, outside advisors, service providers, and applicable agencies on financial, compliance, reporting, and operational matters.

· Prepare filing packages and supporting financial information for review and signature by an authorized Company representative when required.

· Track filing deadlines, renewal fees, outstanding information requests, and potential compliance risks; promptly escalate concerns.

Reporting, Controls, and Process Improvement

· Prepare and maintain the annual operating budget and periodic forecasts; analyze budget-to-actual results and provide clear explanations of material variances, unusual costs, and corrective actions to U.S. leadership and Global Finance.

· Prepare and analyze monthly P&L, balance-sheet, and cash-flow reporting; calculate employee bonus payouts using actual P&L results and approved Company criteria; prepare supporting calculations for leadership review and approval; and maintain approval, payment, documentation-retention, and internal-control procedures.

· Coordinate audit, tax, banking, insurance, and vendor documentation requests with authorized leadership, Global Finance, and outside advisors.

· Independently design, document, implement, and improve practical finance processes, internal controls, tracking tools, reporting workflows, and system procedures that strengthen accuracy, transparency, and efficiency.

· Handle Company financial and personnel information with appropriate confidentiality and discretion.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.

· Four (4) to six (6) years of progressive accounting or bookkeeping experience, including demonstrated ownership of full-cycle bookkeeping, general ledger activity, reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close, and financial reporting.

· Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing monthly P&L statements, balance sheets, cash-flow reporting, annual budgets, forecasts, and budget-to-actual variance reports.

· Ability to coordinate directly and effectively with an overseas finance team is required; prior experience with Global Finance, Asia-Pacific partners, or other cross-border operations is strongly preferred.

· Advanced Excel proficiency and hands-on experience with accounting, ERP, expense-management, or financial-reporting systems.

· Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, judgment, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

· Solid accounting fundamentals and the ability to learn new systems, processes, and business requirements quickly. Demonstrated initiative to identify missing information or unclear processes, build a practical solution, and follow through with appropriate stakeholders until completion or escalation.

· Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain U.S. operational information to global stakeholders and communicate overseas requirements to U.S. partners.

· Ability to work in person from the Company office.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Global, Asia-Pacific, or other international business partners.

· Familiarity with intercompany transactions, multi-currency payments, international vendor payments, or wire-transfer documentation.

· Experience with Insperity, Emburse, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar systems.

· Experience in logistics, engineering, manufacturing, semiconductor, or project-based operations.
