Position Overview:  
Our Utility Structures division is seeking Utility Pole Technicians to support utility infrastructure programs across New York State. This position involves field inspection of wooden utility poles and the application of EPA- and NYS-approved wood preservatives and pesticides to extend pole service life and ensure system reliability.
This position will generally require 3 to 4 nights of travel per week.  Travel will be paid for by the company and generous PER DIEMs will be provided. 
This is hands-on, outdoor work performed in varying terrain and weather conditions. Technicians will regularly use UTVs (side-by-sides) and other field vehicles to safely access utility rights-of-way. 
Specific responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:
  • Perform groundline and above-ground inspections of wooden utility poles in accordance with industry best practices
  • Identify and document pole conditions including decay, damage, insect infestation, and structural deficiencies
  • Apply wood preservatives and pesticides in compliance with a variety of important regulations and specifications
  • Safely operate UTVs (side-by-sides) and company vehicles to access remote or off-road work areas
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, drilling equipment, and treatment application systems
  • Accurately record inspection results, treatments performed, and locations using mobile devices or inspection software
  • Follow all OSHA, DOT, NYS DEC, and company safety policies, including proper PPE use, chemical handling, storage, and disposal
  • Maintain company vehicles, UTVs, tools, and equipment in safe working condition
  • Communicate professionally with supervisors, utility representatives, landowners, and the public as needed
  • Travel daily throughout New York State; overnight travel may be required depending on project location

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in outdoor environments
  • Comfortable working around active utility infrastructure and roadways
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Current NYS DEC Pesticide Applicator License – Category 6B OR willingness to obtain Category 6B certification (training and support provided)
  • Ability to safely operate UTVs/side-by-sides (training provided if needed)
  • Familiarity with mobile inspection or data collection software a plus
  • Comfortable with three to four nights of overnight travel per week

Compensation:
  • $22.00-$26.00 per hour. 
    • Employees receive a generous per diem to cover hotels and food, in addition to their hourly wage. Considerable overtime is also available.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Walk uneven terrain, roadways, and utility rights-of-way
  • Exposure to pesticides and preservatives with proper PPE and training
