Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU (Pulmonary/GI) position requiring cardiac monitoring skills and a VA or compact RN license.

Details
  • 13-week assignment in a Hospitalist PCU with primary Pulmonary/GI patient population
  • Serves adult and geriatric patients with a daily unit census of 27
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • No ventilated patients on this unit
  • May work without CNA support
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12 hours, 6:45pm-7:15am
  • May include every-other-weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Facility may call off staff up to 1 shift per 2-week period
  • Must work at least one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's)
  • Epic charting experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience required, 2+ years and Level I Trauma or 300+ bed facility experience preferred
  • PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown setting experience required
  • Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response experience required
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including Cardizem (no titration), Amiodarone, Heparin protocol, and Insulin protocol required
  • Respiratory support experience including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management required
  • Experience with rapid response/code teams and isolation precautions required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care in a Hospitalist PCU serving primarily Pulmonary/GI patients
  • Work within a Level I Trauma Center that is Magnet-designated and affiliated with a teaching hospital
  • Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed for emergency situations
  • Manage cardiac drips and insulin/heparin protocols per facility guidelines
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility (per driver's license address) are not accepted, with exceptions for inpatient RNs living 50-99.9 miles away eligible for one 13-week assignment with no extension, and those living under 50 miles eligible for one assignment at a lower rate with no extension
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return regardless of separation period, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
  • All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted in advance
