Job description

We are seeking an experienced Installer II to support telecommunications installation and infrastructure projects in the Kansas City area. This mid-level role is ideal for candidates with hands-on experience in telecom installations, cable systems, equipment mounting, and network infrastructure support.

The Installer II will perform field installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and retrofit activities while ensuring adherence to safety standards and quality processes. This position requires travel and the ability to work in dynamic field environments.


Installer II – Telecommunications

Location: Kansas City, MO
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Compensation: $25–$27/hour


Travel & Schedule Requirements

  • Must be willing to travel 50%–75%
  • Overnight travel may be required for 1–2 weeks at a time, including weekends
  • Flexibility to work:
    • Early morning shifts
    • Occasional evening shifts
    • Infrequent weekend schedules


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, label, and lace fiber and copper cabling according to industry standards
  • Perform testing and troubleshooting for fiber/copper installations
  • Conduct lead verification and continuity testing
  • Mount racks, frames, shelves, and telecom equipment securely and accurately
  • Add/remove wiring, connections, and non-powered hardware on approved equipment
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, job plans, specifications, and scope documents
  • Support retrofits and upgrades for existing telecommunications infrastructure
  • Follow established safety procedures and properly maintain PPE
  • Maintain quality control standards throughout installations
  • Inventory and track job-related materials
  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams
  • Provide guidance or training to junior installers as needed
  • Track and record work hours using time-tracking software


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of field service or telecommunications installation experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience installing:
    • Telecom cabling
    • Equipment racks
    • Power systems
    • Grounding systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with industry standards including:
    • AT&T TP-76300 / 76409
    • Telcordia GR1275
    • Verizon IP72202
  • Proficiency with computers, tablets, and Microsoft Office
  • Strong manual dexterity and ability to use hand tools effectively
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and proof of insurance
  • Completion of Basic Installation training or equivalent hands-on experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of electronics training from a technical school or military background
  • Experience with current network products and telecom systems
  • Prior experience mentoring or training junior technicians


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 50–100 lbs
  • Comfortable working on ladders and in confined spaces
  • Ability to work safely around electrical wiring and ESD-sensitive equipment
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, crawling, lifting, pushing, and pulling required
