BROADBAND TELECOM SERVICES, INC.

Broadband Telecom Services is a comprehensive telecommunications construction contracting company. 

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, Non-Exempt

LOCATION: San Antonio, Texas

REPORTS TO: Construction Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Aerial Construction Lineman performs routine, preventative aerial construction on coax and fiber plant, also green field and brown field construction, splicing and activation.  The Aerial Construction Tech may also perform pole transfers, install risers and help other crews when needed.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must possess advanced knowledge of cable construction, HFC plant fundamentals including proper set up techniques for aerial construction. Must understand OSHA and traffic safety pattern setup.

  • Must be able to maintain regular attendance and work overtime and standby duty.

  • Must possess knowledge of basic coaxial, fiber construction techniques, cable TV fundamentals, Federal and State OSHA regulations.

  • Must possess an understanding of Windows based computer programs and possess the ability to learn other, more specialized programs.

  • Ability to interact with coworkers in a positive manner, follow directions and work rules and accept constructive feedback.

  • Must be willing to learn to climb poles or demonstrate the ability to BTS Leadership.

  • Must have knowledge of working strand and lashing wire and general aerial construction and pole line transfers.

  • Must have knowledge of minor troubleshooting and repairs, signal level and other troubleshooting devices.

  • Ability to safely drive a Company-issued vehicle and maintain a safe driving record.

  • Must be able to safely operate an aerial lift and utilize all safety protocols for work aloft.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position is exposed to outside elements (rain, snow, sleet, and heat)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING 


  • Follows established construction processes and compliance with all Local, State, Federal laws; and BTS Cable and customer requirements and standards.

  • Must be able to work aloft on ladder, climbers, platform or bucket truck

  • Performs proper set up for aerial construction completion of fiber and coaxial plant.

  • Utilizes a field strength meter, optical test equipment, hand tools and splicing tools to splice and/or activate the cable system.

  • Repairs cable in emergency situations while working on stand-by for a one-week period. Must have the capability to be at outage sites in a specified time frame.

  • Completes and reports test point measurements for plant activation & repair.

  • May communicate with various departments or individuals to ensure the proper cable is being constructed or repaired.

  • Assists in the installation and activation of fiber optic cable, trunk and feeder coaxial cables related to network operations.

  • Performs Job Hazard Analysis on all jobs prior to set up and starting.

  • Identify potential hazards that may impact the completion of the job or endanger your-self or coworkers.

  • Maintains and stocks company-issued vehicle with necessary tools and materials to maximize productivity and efficiency.

  • Complete and assign appropriate codes in Penguin Data to ensure accurate invoicing at the end of each day.

  • Recognizes, practices, and enforces BTS Cable Safety Rules and Procedures on a consistent basis.

  • Completes as build and uploads to Penguin Data at the end of each day

  • Completes preventative and demand construction work as required or assigned.

  • Must be able to analyze problems and identify repairs.

  • Provides support to and performs the duties as assigned.

  • Demonstrates a strong commitment and dedication to delivering excellent customer service through executing by BTS Mission and Values.

  • Maintains a strong line of open communication with direct Supervisor and management team to address and resolve issues in a timely manner and drive productivity.

  • Maintains and supports a brand Company image by displaying a professional attitude and appearance at all times.

    EDUCATION & LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:


    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

    • Electronics course work preferred.

    • Certification in gaffing/pole climbing skills preferred.

    • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

    LANGUAGE/MATHEMATICAL SKILLS & REASONING ABILITY


    • Must be able to use written and verbal communications in English language.

    • Must possess good mathematics skills.

    • Must be able to establish facts, draw valid conclusions and interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

    REASONING ABILITY & PHYSICAL DEMANDS


    • Ability to work aloft.

    • Must have manual dexterity and the ability to utilize various hand tools and test equipment.

    • Must be able to drive a truck or van including a truck/van with an aerial lift

    • Must be able to utilize and manipulate hand and splicing tools as well as test equipment.

    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to see monitor to read and observe cable levels and displays and identify colors.
    • Must be able to type on a computer, and utilize a smart phone to read and update prints.
    • Must be able to kneel, crawl, push, pull, bend, stoop, lift and dig.
    • Must meet and maintain Company’s safe weight policy.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    Working conditions may be considered hazardous or unpleasant caused by traffic, weather, lighting conditions, climbing, or being underground.  Will be exposed to dust, and some chemical fumes/ materials such heat shrink, and gases and fumes which are given off when shrink material is heated by torch, gasoline fumes, RTV, silicon lubricant, etc.

    MATERIALS AND SPECIAL EQUIPMENT USED

    Hand tools, splicing tools, two-way test equipment, ladders, drills, power meter, field strength meter, voltmeter, truck, bucket truck, van, heat shrink, cleansers, computer, calculator, plant prints, lasher, ropes, chain hoist and electronic schematics.
