The Role: Network Infrastructure Technician I

This role supports the daily operation and reliability of Switch data center network infrastructure. You handle hands-on installation, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling and related hardware, following defined procedures and safety standards. Your work helps keep customer and internal network environments stable, documented, and ready for use.

What You’ll Do
  • Install, terminate, label, and maintain copper, fiber, and coax cabling, including patch panels and cable management.

  • Build and modify cable support systems such as ladder rack, tray, J-hooks, and related hardware.

  • Install and replace field-replaceable units such as drives, memory, optics, and power components.

  • Perform basic hardware setup and access using terminal tools.

  • Test cabling using standard tools and document results.

  • Create and maintain design layout records for completed work.

  • Respond to routine alerts and issues, follow escalation procedures when needed, and document all actions in ticketing systems.

  • Escort vendors and support on-site customer activities as required.

What We’re Looking For
  • You follow procedures closely and understand why consistency matters in a mission-critical environment.

  • You communicate clearly and directly with teammates, customers, and vendors.

  • You manage your tasks, document your work, and close the loop without being reminded.

  • You ask for guidance when needed and escalate issues using sound judgment.

  • You contribute to a dependable team culture by showing up prepared and accountable.

What You’ll BringRequired
  • 1–2 years of experience in telecom, data center operations, or IT support.

  • Working knowledge of CAT 3, CAT 5, and CAT 6 cabling, plus single-mode and multi-mode fiber.

  • Basic understanding of ANSI and TIA/EIA cabling standards.

  • Ability to troubleshoot layer 1 connectivity and basic hardware issues.

  • Experience using ticketing systems to track and document work.

  • Comfort working scheduled shifts in a 24/7 operating environment.

Preferred

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certification.

  • Experience with terminal access tools such as PuTTY, SSH, or similar.

  • Familiarity with data center hardware such as switches, routers, PDUs, and related equipment.

Working Conditions and Requirements
  • On-site work in secure data center environments.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds and use lifting devices for heavier equipment.

  • Comfort working on ladders, at heights, and in confined spaces.

  • Ability to work in areas with higher or lower temperatures than a typical office.

  • Willingness to complete required safety training, including OSHA 10 and site-specific certifications.
