Job Title: Leather SewerJob Description

This role focuses on crafting high-quality leather apparel and accessories with exceptional precision and care. You will prepare materials, create samples and patterns, operate industrial sewing machines, and ensure every piece meets exacting quality standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and organize leather and other materials methodically to ensure they are ready for cutting, sewing, and assembly.
  • Create and refine samples and patterns for others to follow, supporting accurate material preparation and garment construction.
  • Set up industrial and single-needle sewing machines, including changing needles, securing attachments, and confirming proper machine operation.
  • Operate a variety of sewing machines, including double-needle and industrial machines, to stitch materials together with precision.
  • Guide fabric and leather accurately through machines, maintaining consistent seams and finishes according to design specifications and design sheets.
  • Inspect incoming materials for flaws or imperfections and uphold strict quality control standards throughout the production process.
  • Perform hand-sewing, ironing, and other finishing techniques as needed to achieve the desired luxury-level quality.
  • Conduct regular machine monitoring and maintenance, detect malfunctions, adjust settings, and perform preventive maintenance in line with manufacturer instructions.
  • Organize, load, and replenish spools of thread, cord, and other materials on machine spindles to keep production running smoothly.
  • Continuously inspect finished products to ensure they meet high craftsmanship standards and design requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area, following all safety protocols and company procedures.
  • Demonstrate versatility by learning and cross-training on other machinery and processes to broaden skills and support production needs.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, communicate clearly, and assist with related tasks to contribute to collective team goals.
  • Handle a physical workload that involves repeated manual motions using feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and fingers throughout the shift.
  • Perform all work in compliance with applicable company policies, procedures, and legal regulations.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks with a strong sense of responsibility and personal accountability.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of one year of experience operating single-needle sewing machines in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating industrial sewing machines, including double-needle machines, for leather and other fabrics.
  • Hands-on experience working with high-end luxury clothing, particularly leather garments and accessories (highly preferred).
  • Strong sewing machine skills, including machine setup, tension adjustment, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to sew accurately according to design specifications and follow design sheets in detail.
  • Basic measuring skills to support precise garment assembly and pattern work.
  • High level of manual dexterity and close visual attention for fine, detailed sewing and finishing tasks.
  • Ability to perform repetitive manual motions and manage a physical workload, including lifting up to 25 lbs as needed.
  • Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new tasks and responsibilities quickly within an appropriate time frame.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Consistent attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain an orderly workflow and high-quality output.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience as a sample maker, including pattern creation and material preparation for others to follow.
  • Background in upholstering or related fields that involve working with heavy fabrics or leather.
  • Familiarity with using tape measures and other measuring tools for accurate cutting and assembly.
  • Experience with quality assurance and quality control processes in a manufacturing or apparel environment.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on sewing equipment following manufacturer guidelines.
  • Openness to cross-training on additional machinery and processes to expand skill set.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $50000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
