Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Stollery Children's Hospital is dedicated to the provision of state-of-the-art care for children up to 18 years of age. Highly skilled health care professionals from around the world have made the Stollery a well-recognized center for specialized pediatric services. As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) will report to the Manager of the Inpatient Float Pool at the Stollery Children's Hospital and shall work to the full scope of the RN according to CRNA and the policies of the Stollery Children's Hospital. The successful applicant will be orientated to and expected to work on multiple designated Stollery inpatient units. The successful candidate is part of the multidisciplinary team caring for pediatric patients and their families within a Family Centered Care philosophy. He/she must be able to apply this philosophy in practice. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Recent Acute Care experience in Pediatrics will be valuable to success in this challenging and dynamic position. If you are passionate about working with children with a variety of conditions and various age groups, this position might be perfect for you! The float team is a highly diverse and specialized team of nursing staff that provides the site with flexibility to provide nursing coverage by floating to the inpatient units with the greatest need. Float team members undergo a comprehensive orientation that targets the specific skills required for each inpatient unit. The successful applicant will support all care areas and will receive the applicable orientation.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, you must complete the following free courses: CRNA Medication Management (Chapters 1-4), available at https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/learning-and-development/learning-modules/ and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification, available at https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successfully pass the Stollery Pre-hire Interview Medication Calculation Exam. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration Exam with 90% or greater completed during orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization) course - completed during orientation. Successful completion of applicable unit specific orientation programs supported. Must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Acute care Pediatric experience preferred. Current Acute care experience in an adult care environment would be preferred if there is no pediatric experience. Excellent organizational and assessment skills with the ability to work independently and communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner.
