Audit Director – Governmental Assurance

Elevated Hires is recruiting an experienced Audit Director specializing in governmental and public-sector auditing. This leadership opportunity offers a fast track to partnership, a hybrid work environment, relocation assistance, and a reasonable work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple audit and accounting engagements while managing scheduling, staffing, workflow, and client deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary liaison among engagement partners, clients, and professional staff.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and develop a thorough understanding of client operations and internal controls.
  • Serve as engagement partner when assigned, including signing attest opinions.
  • Ensure engagements comply with applicable accounting and auditing standards.
  • Identify engagement risks and implement solutions in consultation with leadership.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate audit professionals.
  • Serve as a governmental auditing subject-matter expert.
  • Support recruiting and interviewing efforts for assurance and advisory positions.
  • Develop referral relationships, pursue prospective clients, prepare fee estimates, and contribute to business development.
  • Oversee engagement billing and collection practices.

Qualifications

  • Approximately 10 years of public accounting experience, including at least two years at the Senior Manager level.
  • Significant experience auditing governmental and public-sector entities, including cities, counties, special districts, and charter schools.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Active CPA license.
  • Extensive knowledge of:
    • Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS/Yellow Book)
    • Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS)
    • Uniform Guidance requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to generate new business for a CPA practice.
  • Experience directing, reviewing, training, and developing audit staff.
  • Exposure to nonprofit audits is preferred.
  • Ability to travel to client and office locations as needed.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid schedule combining remote work, office time, and client-site visits.
  • Occasional same-day and overnight travel.
  • Additional hours may be required during peak periods, primarily from August through February.
  • Relocation assistance is available.
