Overnight Rbt Training information

What is overnight RBT training?

Overnight RBT Training refers to Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training programs that are available to take during overnight hours or in a self-paced, online format, allowing learners to complete coursework outside of traditional daytime schedules. RBTs are paraprofessionals who work under the supervision of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) to provide behavioral therapy, often for individuals with autism. The training typically consists of a 40-hour course covering the core competencies required for the RBT credential, including ethics, measurement, assessment, and behavior reduction. Overnight or flexible training options are ideal for those who work during the day or have other scheduling constraints. Upon completion of the training, candidates must pass a competency assessment and the official RBT exam.

What are some unique challenges faced by RBTs working overnight shifts, and how can they be managed?

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) working overnight shifts often encounter challenges such as maintaining alertness during quieter hours, handling behavioral incidents with limited on-site support, and adapting to clients' nighttime routines. To manage these challenges, it's important to establish a consistent sleep schedule, utilize effective communication with the daytime team for continuity of care, and develop strategies for self-care during breaks. Many organizations also provide training and resources to help overnight RBTs address the unique needs of clients during nighttime hours.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an overnight Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and why are they important?

To thrive as an Overnight RBT, you need foundational knowledge in applied behavior analysis (ABA), experience working with individuals with autism or developmental disabilities, and a valid RBT certification. Familiarity with data collection software, incident reporting systems, and ABA therapy tools is typically required. Exceptional patience, strong observational skills, and effective communication set outstanding RBTs apart, especially during overnight shifts when independent problem-solving is crucial. These skills are vital to ensure client safety, maintain consistent therapeutic intervention, and accurately report behavioral data during less supervised hours.

Same skills. Different setting. Better schedule.

Already working as a Direct Support Professional, RBT, Behavior Technician, Paraprofessional, Job Coach, Respite Provider, Caregiver, or other human services professional?

Your experience can transfer directly into Dungarvin.

Our Day Program is an active, hands-on setting where you'll teach life skills, lead activities, support behaviors and personal care, get into the community, and help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build greater independence.

This is not residential care. There are no overnight shifts and no weekend shifts.

You may spend part of the day leading a cooking or art activity, helping someone practice communication or money-management skills, supporting a community outing, providing personal care, or helping someone work through a behavioral challenge.

Relevant hands-on experience preferred.

Job Description

What You'll Actually Do:

  • Lead cooking, art, music, recreation, and life-skills activities
  • Teach and reinforce skills that build greater independence
  • Support community outings and volunteer activities
  • Provide personal care, including restroom, hygiene, eating, and mobility support
  • Provide behavioral support and use trained de-escalation techniques
  • Support individuals with different communication needs, including nonverbal communication
  • Follow individualized support and behavior plans
  • Drive company vehicles for outings and community activities
  • Complete accurate electronic documentation
  • Prepare, clean, and reset program areas
  • Work closely with your team to maintain a safe, positive, and consistent environment

Our Day Program is built around engagement. DSPs actively participate, encourage individuals, adapt activities when needed, and help each person participate at their own ability level.

Strong DSPs stay calm, pay attention, take initiative, communicate with their team, accept feedback, and adjust when something isn't working. They understand that supporting independence means coaching someone through a task instead of automatically doing it for them.

If that sounds familiar, you'll understand this job.

We're looking for candidates who already have experience supporting people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral needs, personal care needs, or similar support needs.

Relevant experience may include work as a:

Your experience may come from a Day Program, group home, residential setting, school, behavioral program, respite services, employment services, or community-based program.

Experience with intellectual and developmental disabilities, behavioral support, life-skills training, personal care, nonverbal communication, or community-based services is especially valuable.
