Physician Position Overview
As a Primary Care Physician, you'll work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team, including other physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and support staff. Together, you'll deliver comprehensive and coordinated care to veterans. Strong computer skills are essential, as NCHCS utilizes a fully computerized system for documentation, order entry, and consultation requests.


Functions

  • Primary Care: Clinical duties encompass approximately 80-100% of work time.

  • Resident/Medical Student Teaching: Teaching responsibilities may comprise up to 20% of work time, as assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate care for a panel of outpatients as assigned by NCHCS.

  • Evaluate and treat acute and chronic health conditions for scheduled and unscheduled clinic patients.

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical examinations.

  • Document thoroughly, including history, physical exam findings, diagnosis, care plan, and patient disposition.

  • Ensure patients are appropriately closed-out, including documentation of next steps, updated medication list, and appointment lists at the end of visits.

  • Perform office procedures within approved privileges.

  • Prescribe medications and provide medication counseling as indicated.

  • Order and interpret routine laboratory, radiological, and diagnostic tests; communicate findings to patients.

  • Initiate and expedite consultation and special test requests as needed.

  • Screen patients to determine the need for hospitalization.

  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for residents and medical students in the clinic setting.
