Key Responsibilities:

  • Will work both in the field and in the office in the office on water resources and environmental projects with the schedule to be determined by project needs
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret geologic, hydrogeologic, hydrologic, and geochemical data
  • Work with more senior staff to develop and apply numerical models of groundwater flow, vadose zone flow, and solute transport
  • Set up field projects, including permitting; coordinating with staff, laboratories, and subcontractors; and obtaining necessary equipment
  • Conduct field work including drilling and well construction oversight, soil sampling and logging, groundwater monitoring, soil gas sampling, aquifer testing, field mapping, and trench logging
  • Ensure projects are performed safely
  • Prepare draft technical reports, including technical writing, development of report tables, and figures
  • Will travel to project sites locally and out of the area as necessary.  Approximately 15% overnight travel
Skills / Qualifications

Requirements:

  • BS in Geology, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
  • 1 - 5+ years of work experience
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability and willingness to travel locally and out of the area as necessary.  Approximately 15% overnight travel
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy

Preferred:

  • MS with coursework in hydrogeology, hydrology, groundwater modeling, and GIS
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS software to manage and visualize data
  • Familiarity with development, calibration, and application of numerical models of groundwater flow and solute transport using MODFLOW and MT3D or other software
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (R, Python, VBA)
  • Familiarity with automated parameter optimization for model calibration using PEST or other tools
  • Familiarity with modeling of unsaturated flow using Hydrus, VS2D, or other software
  • Familiarity with numerical analysis of aquifer test data using AQTESOLV and other methods
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification (if not, Wood will provide)
  • Geologist in Training or Engineer in Training in the State of California

Physical Demands:

  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Working in a standing position for the majority of the field workday
  • Ability to drive large pick-up truck
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Close, distance, and peripheral vision; normal auditory function
  • Must complete fit for duty employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required
